8 / 10 - Monster Train

If you are willing to turn down the tone-setting battle music, this is an excellent game to unwind with while listening to a podcast—so long as you find this kind of challenge cathartic rather than frustrating.

6 / 10 - VirtuaVerse
May 13, 2020

The premise, art, music, and potential are all fantastic. But when it came time to actively engage with the game, I was hindered by unremarkable characters and poorly-conveyed puzzles.

Fury Unleashed doesn’t hold your attention for very long. This is a good thing. This isn’t the kind of game you play for days on end, perfecting your run. Rather, this is something to come back to every once in a while, when you’ve got a few minutes to kill.

9 / 10 - Gears Tactics
Apr 28, 2020

It’s clear that both Splash Damage and The Coalition have done their research; as a strategy title, Gears Tactics successfully captures the nuances of what makes a good strategy game work. Regardless of whether or not you’re a hardcore Gears of War fan, Gears Tactics offers a fresh take on the XCOM-like tactics formula that will be a joy to play for strategy fans.

5 / 10 - A Fold Apart
Apr 22, 2020

A Fold Apart goes on a sadly well populated pile of games that suffer from “good idea, poor execution”. The use of perspective gameplay gels well with an interesting idea for a story. But the gameplay is less than fun, and the story loudly and busily goes nowhere. Not quite up to scratch I’m afraid.

6 / 10 - Iron Danger

Overall, I feel like I’ve missed something with Iron Danger. On paper I should love it but I haven’t been able to get there. For me, it was a nested frustration that killed my enjoyment.

3 / 10 - Bleeding Edge
Apr 5, 2020

It’s not an experience I can recommend easily. Maybe if they worked on it, really gave it the old spit, shine, and polish and a handful more game modes, I would consider coming back. But as it stands now, it’s just not worth it.

I absolutely loved my time with In Other Waters. I’m itching to dive back in and fully complete Ellery’s taxonomy logs, and I can’t wait to grab the companion book for more worldbuilding and lore. Despite a few mechanical flaws, I highly recommend In Other Waters for anyone looking to immerse themselves in an alien world for a few hours.
