Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden explores profound themes through the well-written and acted story of Antei and Red. The game presents morally complex choices without clear-cut good or evil. While the combat becomes repetitive and the music and graphics are unremarkable, the story stands out as original and entertaining in today's gaming landscape.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is Rocksteady's first attempt to delve into the waters of live-service titles, and unfortunately, it's not one of the happiest examples. It's a bone-dry shooter that currently has no choice but to rely on the story and recycle the minimal content one can find in it. Will that change in the coming seasons? Maybe yes, maybe no. There's nothing to do but wait. In terms of release, though, this title doesn't even come close to the studio's previous games, and one that may very well end up like most live-service titles that fail to impress from day one.

The game's rental housing feature quickly becomes mundane. The large, culturally rich setting of Tomarang is primarily decorative, with limited usable land, reducing the expansion's potential. Gameplay is hindered by bugs and optimization issues, though new traits and activities for sims add some appeal.

RoboCop: Rogue City is another decently crafted game adaptation of a movie brand from Teyon studio. The game doesn't bring revolutionary design or gameplay. Instead, it does a great job of capturing the atmosphere of the original films and adds side quests that make you feel like a real RoboCop.

6 / 10 - War Hospital
Jan 26, 2024

The title, unlike others, shows an entirely different experience of war, which is not often presented to players. Instead of standing behind the visor of a machine gun, you will be standing over an operating bed. It's not entertainment for everyone and delivers a depressing experience more than anything else. This is added to by both the grey colors of the visuals and the music accentuating the sad atmosphere. Unfortunately, the latter is often too bland and sterile, even though it may seem like it belongs with Scalpel. The poorly designed UI and the absence of keys will make you shake your head that such a crucial thing was not detected by the testers earlier. More than having fun, you will suffer from the pathetic technical state and wonder how someone could waste such great potential with not only an uninteresting story.

9 / 10 - Tekken 8
Jan 23, 2024

Tekken series has never been better. The improved combat system is faster and more aggressive, making everything feel more modern. The story isn't afraid to push the boundaries of what's possible in the series. Tekken 8 is not just another installment but a unique, fresh experience.

The game is a great addition for fans of this universe, who will glimpse what might have happened before the first series. Newcomers will find specific dialogue and things strange and make no sense to them, and unfortunately, they won't get any explanation.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is a work that should never have been made. The fact that it was initially supposed to be an expansion of the previous title speaks volumes. The sequel blatantly copies what the series came up with long ago and in an even more dysfunctional way. The title is in the vein of Warzone's battle royale mode, which is crammed into both the campaign and zombies mode, and the multiplayer delivers virtually identical gameplay, environments, and weapons to what we played last year. Not even great graphics or technical artistry can salvage the fact that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is below average.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown perfectly demonstrates what an excellent platformer game can look like. Ubisoft Montpellier has capitalized on its Rayman experience and breathed new life into the original idea of the Prince of Persia in near-perfect form.

Three Minutes to Eight is a lovely puzzle game, but you'll turn it on once/twice and then probably never again. It's not that it does anything wrong; it just doesn't offer anything that makes you want to keep playing and discover all the endings.

Super Mario RPG Remake is a faithful window to 1996, bringing so many quality-of-life improvements from 20 years of RPG experience. With new visuals and soundtrack, and good old JRPG gameplay, it is a sight to behold.

8 / 10 - Ready or Not
Jan 2, 2024

Ready or Not manages to make the difficult job of the SWAT team as close and realistic as possible, and more so than anyone has ever done before. If you've enjoyed the SWAT game series, don't hesitate to buy it. This worthy spiritual successor will delight not only the eyes but also the ears with its attention to detail. There will be slight flaws, such as the autonomy of your colleagues, but you can avoid these with your friends in cooperation. The accuracy of your enemies is also unbalanced, and the full version suffers from poor optimization. Aside from these birth pangs, this is a top-notch affair that shouldn't be missed, and not just by hardcore shooter enthusiasts.

The Gangs of Sherwood had a lot of potential, whether because of the cooperation, the alternate world, or simply because of Robin Hood's big name. But it failed. Not significantly, but it failed. The title's main flaw is its very little content with semi-repetitive gameplay. Gangs of Sherwood doesn't do anything downright wrong, but it also fails to do anything right, making it just another mediocre title that will soon fade into the annals of history.

Last Train Home is an exciting combination of genres, reminiscent of the Commandos or Frostpunk series. Still, the game goes its way and is worth playing. The UI design slightly throws a spanner in the works, and the stealth could be more elaborate. However, the game makes up for these flaws with its originality and connection to actual historical events.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora held all the cards and, at least from our perspective, squandered them all. This reskinned Far Cry is a mediocrity gallery reflecting the current AAA production stuck in the last decade. The Snowdrop engine does help cover up some visible flaws, but when there's a lack of polished plot, quests, and meaningful gameplay, players will figure it out sooner or later. So, while Frontiers of Pandora may not rank among the worst games of the year, it is definitely one of those games that will soon be forgotten with all the mediocrity.

Against the Storm is a surprisingly well-functioning combination of city-builder and rogue-like game. The gradual expansion of options that increase your responsibilities creates an excellent gameplay loop that many similar games can often lack. Bravo!

10 / 10 - Bzzzt
Nov 13, 2023

Bzzzt is an exceptional title, and this is underlined by its impeccably crafted audiovisual design, creativity, imagination, and replayability. The game is made with a love for the craft that is becoming increasingly lacking in most games. This game is a hallmark of excellence.

9 / 10 - Alan Wake 2
Oct 27, 2023

Alan Wake 2 is a masterful work of craftsmanship that pushes the boundaries of audiovisual and story presentation to the next level. Sure, It lacks in some ways - especially in the gameplay, which could still use more. All in all, though, it's a unique experience that won't get lost in the wave of other big titles this year.

5 / 10 - NBA 2K24
Oct 25, 2023

NBA 2K24 continues to do what it has done best in recent years – throwing in monetization elements everywhere. Even though it is an excellent basketball simulation, the need to spend extra money for smooth gameplay makes the game hard to recommend. The multiplayer game is just a big pay-to-win.

Cities: Skylines II offers a wide range of options for building your city on a foundation that isn't yet very stable. It doesn't provide all the features and expansions that its predecessor has received over the years, but it has at least set the stage for developers to continue working on the game. Cities Skylines 2 will keep you entertained for hours already. It's more accessible, creative, and fun, as you can feel the enormous work the developers have done on the build features. On the management and city governance side, it's unfortunately worse. You must also forgive the relatively poor technical state, which spoils the impression of a reasonably successful sequel.
