Seafoam Gaming's Reviews

5 / 10.0 - Mekabolt
Aug 26, 2019

For a $5 game on a system with plenty of better budget titles, this game isn’t a bad one, but it’s incredibly generic and very short, to the point that the platinum trophy basically gives up after the first two worlds, and doesn’t even bother to cover the entire game. You really have no reason to pick this game up unless you’re buying these cheap games for an easy platinum, which is pretty sad considering how some more complex level designs and a wider scale could lead to great potential for a sequel.

Whipseey is a very disappointing platformer that’s just way, way too short for its own good. It has some fun ideas, but with zero replay value, a short length and bad hit boxes, I honestly can’t recommend this platformer compared to the many others available on the eShop. You can play other shorter platformers for the same price or less, but they have more to encourage replays and are a lot better balanced overall.

5 / 10.0 - Gurgamoth
Oct 14, 2019

Regardless, while Gurgamoth’s core gameplay loop is still decently enjoyable, the lack of anything else to it makes it a hard recommendation in the sea of other multiplayer games.

The exploration aspects are still very fun and I enjoyed the additions they did add, but I really do feel a lot of work could have been done to make this stand out as a game worth playing, but even now, Devious Dungeon 2 just didn’t make me care enough to want to get past that first boss.

Monkey King is by far the most barebones retro game port I have seen on the Switch next to D/Generation. Save for handy online leaderboards and the option to increase your lives, there’s little else of importance to speak of, from a locked border, a great (but also locked) display option, no DIP switch or difficulty changes, or really anything extra that could have made this port more worth it such as a gallery or new levels, this is a really disappointing release with quite a bit of balance issues.

5 / 10.0 - Legna Tactica
Aug 16, 2017

This may be an OK game to pick up if you’re seeking out every strategy RPG on the 3DS, but for those looking for a good strategy RPG on the 3DS I recommend that you just stick to the Fire Emblem games, or if you’re just wanting a good RPG in general I insist that you check out Justice Chronicles instead, since Legna Tactica is as middle-of-the-road as you can get.

5 / 10.0 - Lifespeed
Aug 15, 2017

In conclusion, LifeSpeed is a pretty boring racer, with a really short story mode, no multiplayer to speak of and some tracks that go on a lot longer than they really should. While the controls are solid despite the auto-acceleration, and there is satisfaction from narrowly winning a race thanks to a helpful bomb, the game didn’t hold my interest for very long, and the decision to make the leaderboards score based just baffle me.

5 / 10.0 - Gunmetal Arcadia
Apr 17, 2017

For me in particular, instead of the randomness being a factor to make me replay the game over and over again to see what changed, it just made me frustrated and unsure what the difficulty curve was going to be like next. Make no mistake, this game is many times harder than Zero, even on the first level.

Here, you have a great four-player battle mode with plenty of options, and a fun endless mode, but that’s basically it in terms of meaningful content, and for $14 I honestly can only recommend this game for a very specific niche. The basic controls may be simple enough that anyone can join in and mess around, but when there’s also not much to the game as a result, then it doesn’t really bode well for being a lengthy investment of your time.

The level editor is a promising step into making this a fun community for custom content akin to how Chuck’s Challenge panned out, though, and I hope we see more improvements and focuses on that to enable easier sharing and more tools to play with in the editor. Otherwise, you’ll have a decent time playing the solo stages, and pulling your hair out trying to par them. I just wish there were more cool gimmicks and risks taken with the stages as a whole, but overall, a fun effort puzzler fans will enjoy for a while.

Berzerk Recharged is a rare misstep in the Recharged lineup. As much as I was hopeful Berzerk would make for a great entry, so much of this reimagining is bogged down by unfortunate bugs and a lack of polish.

6 / 10.0 - Pinball FX
Oct 18, 2023

Still, I struggle to see how any of this is meant to be an “Engine improvement” over the spectacular FX3, which is incredibly hard to top even now, and it seems this is a rocky regress more than a natural evolution, with the two returning FX3 tables here not feeling different enough to warrant a rebuy if they weren’t free, at least in my view.

6 / 10.0 - Project Blue

Solid action platforming fun, but definitely would have been a bit of a softer blow if it had some sort of password feature, and for the price, you are supporting a fun NES indie with a solid port, but I still wish there were at least more bonuses or QOL stuff for the asking price.

Bugged credits aside, I am pretty impressed with how this game was brought over after all this time, and the treatment here really does give me hope that the other 3 games will follow suit. The original Shockman is rather janky, but it still has a lot of charm to it and is pretty decent fun in co-op, and for the price point + extras, this is definitely a PCE classic worth playing through at least once, especially if you are fond of the sequel that did make it over back in the day.

6 / 10.0 - Gematombe
May 3, 2023

Gematombe is a really clever blend of two puzzle genres, and in concept, it works out remarkably well, with a lot of addictive potential. Sadly, the pacing of the game is a really big issue, and even when the difficulty is cranked up, the game never feels as frantic or speedy as it should have been. I feel like if this game style was played in say, a Super Turbo style of speed, I’d be singing a lot more praise for this competitive brick breaker and go back to it a lot, but as it stands now, Gematombe has a long way to go and is rather content lite.

6 / 10.0 - 80's Overdrive
Mar 22, 2023

80’s Overdrive on 3DS is a pretty decent racer, with only the 3D effect really going for it as the huge reason to play it on the 3DS over any other console. But on other platforms, it got a little bit of extra polish and rebalacing, and honestly, if you can get past the rough patches and difficulty spikes, this 3DS version is still a worthy 3D showcase before the shutdown in a few days, and is still pretty darn fun to play once you get over those initial hurdles.

It isn’t a bad game by any means, and once you get past the tutorial growing pains, it’s a cute game that kids and animal lovers wanting a game to go “aw” to will definitely enjoy, but I definitely feel the pacing could have been smoothed out just a little bit to make this a more easygoing experience.

As a VR showpiece, and when played with a Dualshock 4 in the headset, it’s a pretty clever reinvention of the Puzzle Bobble style that’ll give you a few afternoons of fun before drying up, but playing without PSVR, I honestly can’t recommend Vacation Odyssey just due to how light and plain it is. Truly, the PSVR is what the game was made for in mind, and with that much fun, I can easily recommend it for the price if you have one of those lying around, but for those without PSVR, you may want to wait with caution.

I’m still not a fan of padding in my shmups, but I also can’t deny how satisfying it is to get everything memorized and nail a perfect run of a level after many attempts at doing so, growing more powerful with my attempts.

6 / 10.0 - Spidersaurs
Sep 8, 2022

Still, if you can look past the faults here and don’t mind a bit of jank here and there, you’ll be able to enjoy this game well enough to get one playthrough of fun out of it at the very least, and I do believe that this formula has potential to be expanded out more in a bigger and better sequel, preferably one that doesn’t have any Apple Arcade baggage, and with hopefully a lot less jank with the co-op.
