Liked-a-lot - Cake Bash
Dec 16, 2020

Overall, Cake Bash is a worthy addition to your library. If you enjoy battle royale games, this one is a stellar example of the genre. You can hop online for some fun, and if you join the Coatsink Discord channel, there are frequently people there looking for some fellows to play with. Now, maybe it’s just me, but this is the type of game can cause high levels of rage, and/or create enemies out of the best of friends. Make sure you actually put those joy-con straps on your wrist, or you might end up with a few broken controllers.

Heroes of Loot is a simple fun arcade gameplay to play in those short gaming bursts alone or with a friend. While there’s not much more depth to its design sometimes simple is all some gamers need.

Liked - Death Tales
Dec 13, 2020

While I started out feeling lukeworm on Death Tales the more I played it over short gaming sessions the more I enjoyed its loot mechanic and art style. The floaty combat has it flaws that won’t suit everyone. This is easily a game I would recommend if you’re looking for a simple action platformer to shut your brain off for awhile before getting back on with some work. Don’t fear the reaper, Death Tales is alright.

Liked-a-lot - Phogs!
Dec 12, 2020

Phogs! is a game that will make you and hopefully a friend smile from ear to ear much like the constant smiles of the dogs you play as in this game. The joy of this title really comes from sharing the experience with someone else. But if that’s not possible for you then this is still nice casual puzzler to cosy up with and enjoy in handheld mode.

While I have been harsh on Oniria Crimes I do feel there is a niche audience for this game. If you’re able to immerse yourself in the world and like the idea of a tough point and click game this might be for you. In the games current state, I would still recommend waiting till it gets some much-needed patching. Not a game for me but I hope it finds some fans because of all my critique the idea here is at least different.

Electro Ride is a decent racing game. The graphics and music are the clear highlights but the gameplay and basic racing design doesn’t make this particularly special. The difficult start may put off gamers new to the racing genre. If you want a simple racing game that gives you some 80’s vibes there is fun to be had here. Just don’t expect much more.

Loved - Haven
Dec 10, 2020

Haven is a game best enjoyed with someone else while making yourselves comfy on the sofa. While not without its flaws, a brave decision to focus on the story about a couple makes this a unique title worth immersing yourself in. The music is brilliant and the characters are just lovely. The story may go through the typical beats that I expect lovers to go through in a typical film. Its the talent of the voice actors and the accessibility of the gameplay for most audiences that keep you hooked till the end. Sometimes in life a game just hits you and ends up being better than you could possibly imagine. Haven to me is one of those game made even better because I got to share it with someone special.

Liked-a-lot - Girabox
Dec 10, 2020

Girabox is a straightforward puzzle game where you need to reach the goal There are quite a few stages to get through, and the overall experience is nice and chill without being too overly simplistic. The game is ideal for short sessions and to “play on the go” so it’s perfectly suited to the Nintendo Switch. Toss in a great price of a few pounds, and you’ve got an easy pick-up for puzzle fans or those looking for a bit of affordable enjoyment.

Liked - I, AI
Dec 9, 2020

I, AI has a good premise for a space shooter but doesn’t seem to do much with it. What is left is a decent space shooter that will appeal to fans looking for a simple to moderate challenge but won’t appeal to the hardcore space shooter audience. A fun enough space shooter but shame it didn’t do more to stand out from the rest.

Liked-a-lot - Evolution Board Game
Dec 9, 2020

When I reviewed the mobile game on the iPad I wrote: “I can’t help but think that this game would be a wonderful game to add to the Switch library”. I got my wish, Evolution is a great board game turned into a video game. It will give you the choice of what platform to play on, depending on the money you want to spend and your eyesight!

Out of Space is a game well worth picking up in co-op. It’s an original and unique concept that I can’t say I have experienced in a game before. While it has a few niggles it doesn’t stop this from being something you’re sure to create wonderful gaming memories with.

Liked - BFF or Die
Dec 7, 2020

BFF or Die is just the ticket if you’re looking for a simple puzzle co-op game to enjoy with family or friends on the sofa. The aliens themselves are fun, it’s just a shame the setting is a bit dull. Still, the gameplay is solid. Not so much fun alone but might make for an ideal experience to kill a few hours with your BFF on the sofa.

The game might get repetitive after a while as there are no other sim elements included, though leveling up and the constant stream of new items does keep you interested. Keep in mind that Pretty Princess Party is primarily aimed at a younger audience, but if you are looking for cute and colorful laid back gameplay you might be interested as well. I’m pretty sure it will make a fine addition to many Christmas stockings!

Nine Witches: Family Disruption is a humorous spooky story adventure game which is a lot of fun to play. I had an entertaining time while playing Nine Witches which at times made me smile. Fans of the genre should find it just as enjoyable as I did

Immortals: Fenyx Rising is an excellent adventure offering lots of challenges and many puzzles to complete. It has a unique take on the RPG adventure genre, with enough style and humour to set it apart from any other take on Greek mythology with a fun retelling of classic mythology. I’ve roped Yvonne in to play the game as well promising her an epic adventure and lots of exploring. It’s no secret she is no ace at fighting, but you can play Immortals: Fenyx Rising on different difficulty levels, so that doesn’t have to be a problem! It’s obvious Ubisoft Quebec had a ton of fun making up the puzzles and situations in the game and it’s clear that they drew a lot of inspiration from the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. If you like the open world, adventure genre then Immortal: Fenyx Rising could be just the game for you I’m off to do some more exploring!

Paw Paw Paw is an entertaining little beat-em-up. While you won’t find anything new you haven’t seen before, it’s still worth playing. If you fancy playing as a few cute animals and causing some mayhem, you should give Paw Paw Paw a try.

Liked - More Dark
Dec 4, 2020

More Dark may be based in hell but this experience ends up being a simple puzzle game that will keep you busy for a few gaming sessions before moving on to something else. Short and sweet with a few arcade games to break up the puzzles. A decent coffee game at a cheap price.

Liked-a-lot - The Alto Collection
Dec 3, 2020

The Alto Collection is a lovely set of Zen games with simple controls and beautiful music and graphics to enjoy as you adventure down the mountains again and again. Grinding issues aside this is easily a game to return to if you just want that quick gaming fix. Plus this is one of the few games I can think of that gives a bit of love to Lamas so its all good.

All in all, Vera’s okay, as the main character. Mackey irks me. I just wish other stronger characters were present in the final overall package within a mystery that held my interest. The twists and turns of the tale made me keep going. Unfortunately, the mystery element fizzles towards the conclusion. …Oh, that’s seriously it? Certain narrative threads remained unresolved. However, they could be in one of the different endings? Maybe the Vera Blanc sequel, The Ghost in the Castle? I must confess that I only did one playthrough as of this review.

Sam & Max Save the World is an entertaining point and click adventure. The game is given a new lease of life and a new lick of paint with its spruced up graphics. If you can get past the slightly unruly controls you will find a puzzle game that’s not too hard. There is some repetition in design between the episodes and some overly long dialogue lines from the characters. A new generation of gamers may find some of the humour more groan-worthy than hilarious.
