Only after a few hours of play and probably unsuccessful runs through the Black Iron Prison does "[Redacted]" really begin. These first hours are tough and often even quite boring as you constantly expand your arsenal of weapons and improve your stats. If you make it over this barrier, you get a solid twin-stick shooter in a fun roguelite package. Unfortunately, the melee combat doesn't feel good at all. "[Redacted]" is not a new star in the sky for the genre and would work as well as it does in the end even without the relationship to "The Callisto Protocol". If you need more in a fairly saturated genre, you might make a much worse choice than with "[Redacted]".

Empire of the Ants isn't your typical RTS-game. Instead it's a wonderful looking experience, that drags you into the life of insects. Despite the great presentation, the game itself suffers from lackluster controls and camera-issues.

In some regards Slitterhead is fantastic. It offers an engaging story told through the perspective of several characters, a simple yet fun combat system that excels through the ability to possess different people at any moment and super cool monster design in the Slitterheads. Unfortunately a lot of the other aspects feel very underbaked. Stealth isn’t engaging at all and sometimes kills all the momentum the game had going, the controls are always snappy enough for what you want to do and some aspects of the presentation feel very oldschool. As a package the game is a lot of fun though and offers a glimpse into what the developers at Bokeh Game Studio are able to do in the future. That is certainly bright and hopefully brings more somewhat unique titles like Slitterhead certainly is.

Mario & Luigi: Brothership is a great combination of Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario in a unique floating island world. Although it is a solo game, the RPG succeeds in preventing an inimitable co-op-like experience with a high variety in combat, puzzles and skill based challenges. Just one of the best Switch games in 2024 and a must have for any Mario fan.

Zero Dawn Remastered looks better and, thanks to the Dual Sense controls, plays and feels even better than the PS4 original. But you need to decide by yourself, if the ten bucks is worth it to play the game again. If you do not have the game yet, Zero Dawn, the Remastered version is just the best opportunity to play it. Not least because here you get the main game as well as worthline story extension The Frozen Wilds.

If you ignored or missed COD parts in the latter, you should take a look at "Black Ops 6" at the latest - it's worth it!

New World: Aeternum is a good MMO addition for console players. The combat works great with a controller even though that leaves it with a relatively low number of usable skills per weapon. Being class agnostic makes it so you can do whatever you want whenever you want. It also means that everything can just be overwhelming cause you are constantly leveling up different jobs, weapons, regions and even your own house. While the PVE side plays it relatively safe and almost boring New World offers a fascinatingly deep PVP aspect that you can really dig into.

The technical implementation is good: the camera is relatively close to the action. This means you see less of the surroundings, but more of the actors. Hits leave swelling and lacerations. In contrast to "EA Sports UFC 5", "Undisputed" keeps the blood factor a little lower: there are lacerations, but they are less directly captured and celebrated. Body blows are also clearly recognizable. Effective hits are shown just as clearly as knockdowns and knockouts.

80% - Europa
Oct 23, 2024

Europa is a cinematic puzzle platform game inspired by the Studio Ghibli films which delivers an atmospheric and meditative experience. Even though it’s a relatively short visit to the moon of Jupiter, it’s a welcome escape from every day life.

Great RPG skirmishes, depth of gameplay, ideas that still seem fresh and varied gameplay make Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven irresistible, and not just for retro fans. However, some elements such as a certain lifelessness of the game world and repetitive sequences are no longer really up to date. Whether you appreciate unique features such as the generation change or reject them outright is certainly a matter of taste.

Shin chan: Shiro and the Coal Town is a charming little adventure that brings back childhood memories of carefree summer holidays. The beautifully drawn landscapes paired with the classic Shin chan humour is bound to put a smile on your face no matter what.

How long the multiplayer part's breath will ultimately last, however, will probably depend on the supply of fresh content and more creative quests. The gameplay loop wears out pretty quickly, but more variety could help. With a little more courage for modern game design, it could have been the best "SAO" game so far.

Patrick's first own video game is definitely not a total failure, but it can hardly do justice to its legendary original. If you can get used to the weaknesses of the title and just want to have wild fun, you can still take a look here. Especially for younger gaming fans, it is a nice pastime.

Even 13 years later, Sonic Generations is still one thing above all else: pure and, most importantly, lightning-fast platforming fun! The great levels are packed with little details, the graphics and soundtrack are beautiful and Shadow's appearance makes the experience even better. Despite some minor flaws, this game is absolutely worthy of SEGA's video game legend.

"Starship Troopers: Extermination" is rather mediocre as an overall package. The reason for this is the bumpy performance, the laughable single-player mode and the general lack of variety at release. Nevertheless, the game is captivating and even surpasses the best games in this genre in one respect: the moments when we have to hold the line against an overwhelming mass of opponents. "Starship Troopers: Extermination" does a lot of things only satisfactorily, but it captures this one aspect so well that we keep coming back to play a game. Maybe the developer Offworld will succeed in building something on this foundation, other games show that this is quite possible. Unfortunately, despite the rather low price, the competition is much further ahead than "Starship Troopers: Extermination" currently is.

Unknown 9 suffers from technical hick-ups and gameplay-imbalances. Stealth is fun, but too easy for veterans. Handling and combat turn out stiff. Yet again, Unknown 9 can be satisfying and motivating and delivers a fresh setting.

Not every single game mode might be more than a nice bonus. But especially with the Jamboree Buddies system and some other creative inventions the core board game mode benefits a lot. In addition with the fully new co-op mode Bowser Kaboom Squad and the competitive Koopathlon mode for 20 players Super Mario Party Jamboree is just one of the best entries to the Mario Party series, maybe the best so far.
