Cat with Monocle's Reviews

Mar 28, 2018

Overall, The Alliance Alive is a solid RPG with a unique narrative structure, a deep but accessible combat system, a nifty soundtrack, and a couple small graphical annoyances. Considering the portability and power of the Nintendo Switch, it also might be one of the last great RPGs for the 3DS, so don’t let the handheld disappear without a good fight.

While quite short, Old Man’s Journey tells a wonderful, if not emotional, story with little puzzles to solve along the way. The graphics present a lovely, transformable landscape that is very aesthetically pleasing and the music fits perfectly with each setting. Unfortunately, as expected with a linear, story based game like this, replayability is not something that is to found here. In addition, the game, whose price is nearly twice as much as other devices, has no extra content that can’t be found elsewhere, which is too bad. Even with that in mind, Old Man’s Journey and the story it tells gets a very emotional 4 out of 5.

4 / 5.0 - Aqua Kitty UDX
Mar 8, 2018

If you enjoy arcade shoot ‘em up games, Aqua Kitty UDX is an amusing title to have in your library that’ll test not only your maneuvering skills but also your shooting. Even with minor issues about the menu screen popping up during battle and lack of online co-op, the game is worth your time. The milk must flow!

3.5 / 5.0 - Tiny Metal
Feb 23, 2018

The various maps during the campaign, the well written story, and the pace of gameplay (outside of story elements) makes Tiny Metal a great addition to the Switch library of games. Tiny Metal gets a solid 3.5 out of 5. The price point may be a little high at $24.99, especially without multiplayer available, but for fans of this genre, Tiny Metal makes for a wonderful experience.

3 / 5.0 - Shu
Feb 22, 2018

The average time to play through the story of Shu is roughly four hours with additional hours if players are yearning for 100% completion. Shu is an attractive platformer game with straightforward goals but tedious chases. Players who are looking to pick up something quick between other games may want to catch a ride with Shu.

4 / 5.0 - SteamWorld Dig
Feb 19, 2018

SteamWorld Dig is an enjoyable platform game when it comes to digging. Players will enjoy getting upgrades and unlocking abilities, even though backtracking can be tedious and Rusty’s jumping can be cumbersome. The game is well worth your time to explore, especially on the go.

Overall, Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology is a time-twistingly fun RPG with an engaging battle system and a few odd quirks. It’s the most perfect version we’ll get…unless Atlus announces something for the Nintendo Switch.

5 / 5.0 - Celeste
Feb 8, 2018

Celeste a fantastic platformer that’ll test your precision and problem-solving skills. Each chapter challenges you to win, die, and have fun. Clearly a game to own in your digital gaming library. The only addition the game could possibly add would be adjusting the control buttons — luckily that is in the works. You’ll perish hundreds of times and that’s okay! When you’ve figured out how to maneuver around death traps, you’ll be smiling right up until you die again. When that happens, pick yourself back up and try again. I guarantee you’ll smile again. This is it, Madeline. Just breathe. You can do this.

5 / 5.0 - Iconoclasts
Feb 8, 2018

You’ll likely achieve at least 12 hours of gameplay on your first-time, and shorter when replaying. The game will score you depending on how many “tweaks” were created, and how many treasures were found. For perfectionists, expect to put in some extra time for that 100%.Iconoclasts is a terrific game that utilizes the 16-bit style wonderfully. The music and gameplay heightens the value. While the story may become confusing at times, and problem-solving boss fights can take time, it doesn’t distract from how much excitement this game has. This is worth purchasing for your digital library and deserves your attention.

4 / 5.0 - Forts
Feb 3, 2018

Forts is a simple game with some complex mechanics in it. The game is hard and not forgiving which is both good and bad. You will find this game challenging and frustrating at times, especially on the higher difficulties. It’s a nice spin on the Base Building genre set, and the amusing social commentary helps to make it a welcome challenge. The campaign was short, and seemed mainly a stepping stone to understand the game flow for multiplayer. Pick this game up if you are into the base building genre, or are looking for a fun game to play with friends that doesn’t involve a ton of time to invested.

Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds Overdrive is a fun beat-’em-up with character skill customization. Unfortunately, the game’s short story, repetitive battles, and lack of online co-op make the replay value less than what it could be.

Xenon Valkyrie+’s random generated levels, entertaining soundtrack, and the pixelated design makes the game a good addition to your library, especially if you are using a PlayStation Vita. However the game’s merciless gameplay makes it tough to finish.

3.5 / 5.0 - Dimension Drive

4.5 / 5.0 - Cat Quest
Nov 29, 2017

The Gentlebros left a lot of doors open for downloadable content (DLC) and a potential sequel. The game hints at many possibilities involving dogs, mice, and secrets between the Dragonblood and dragons, but that’ll be up to the Gentlebros on how big they want to make this. I, for one, would like to see expansions made to the game and continue the story of the silent hero. Cat Quest is a purrtastic game that deserves your attention and belongs in your gaming library, especially if you enjoy pawesome indie games.
