New Tales of the Borderlands is a worthy successor to the original Telltales games. We feel the evolution of the adventure-narrative style. For some, the game may be redundant or less original, but overall 2K and Gearbox gave us a quality game. Despite the busy time of year for new releases, if you like the genre this should be on top of your list.

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope is a very good sequel that doesn't really require you to play the first game. Ubisoft Milan and Nintendo have the perfect recipe and I hope they will continue this partnership for many more games. The mix between the madness of Rabbids and the characters of the Mario universe is very well balanced here. I would have taken even more. It is absolutely necessary to highlight the work of Ubisoft at the level of the different character designs, abilities of Sparks, enemies and planets. If you're looking for a good tactical game with a great setting, check this one out.

9 / 10.0 - Soulstice
Sep 24, 2022

I loved my experience with Soulstice. The fast pace of the game makes us never want to stop. The developers managed to combine different styles in a brilliant way. With the multiple difficulty levels, there's a challenge for everyone.

In the end, Insomniac did well to capitalize on the success of Miles Morales in the movies. We are dealing here with a more concise and engaging adventure than the one featuring Peter Parker. It may be that the same activities are repeated mission after mission, but the sense of freedom that comes from swinging between skyscrapers alone is worth it. We also appreciate the developers' restraint in the side quests and tasks by avoiding trivia. Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales is, in other words, excellent entertainment that deserves to be played for the first or second time.

9 / 10.0 - Hogwarts Legacy
Feb 20, 2023

With very high expectations, Hogwarts Legacy: Hogwarts Legacy manages to surprise the player both in terms of its narrative and the fully explorable universe. The title offers dozens of hours of quests in addition to the little secrets hidden everywhere. If you are a Harry Potter fan, there is no doubt that you will be charmed by this successful adaptation. Flaws such as certain parts of the interface or the underused equipment system do not allow the overall experience to be tarnished. Hats off to the studio team at Avalanche Software who had a huge order and managed to meet the challenge. No doubt more content will be added in the future especially with the current commercial and critical success.

I could just ask you if you liked the first Octopath Traveler and if you did, you will like the second one. But that would be doing an injustice. To those who didn't get a chance to do the original title, you can do the second one without concern. But to those who have already done it, there are still minor adjustments that enhance our overall experience. The soundtrack is boundlessly generous, the day/night cycle is welcome and, let's face it, each character's storyline is more interesting. At the risk of repeating myself, you can't change a winning formula. But you can certainly tweak it a bit. And that's exactly what Square Enix has done successfully.

9 / 10.0 - LUNARK
Mar 30, 2023

Canari Games delivered a little gem of a video game. Its obvious LUNARK was crafted with love and respect for everything that's been done in the genre before. It's visually stunning, very easy to jump in and the platforming phases offer plenty of variety. While one could say it’s a little bit short, I prefer saying the game doesn’t get unnecessarily long. When I will think back on the year 2023, LUNARK will definitely be high on my list of games I've really enjoyed.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor picks up where we left off with a little extra. The game brings depth to the basics that we had with Fallen Order to our delight. Cal is not only an accomplished Jedi, he is now a master of lightsaber combat. This is one of the best adventure games of the last few years and it will be hard not to compare all the upcoming Star Wars titles with Survivor. It's not a perfect title, as demonstrated by the small technical issues in texture and in the cinematics. But it remains among the best titles in the George Lucas universe.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a great sequel that doesn't revolutionize the series like the first game did, but is still an absolute must play. This new version of Hyrule is bigger than ever and the new powers of Link help revigorate the gameplay. Yes it has a few flaws, but I didn't want to put down my Switch and I had a big smile during the whole review process.

9 / 10.0 - Bleak Sword DX
Jun 13, 2023

So, what do we take away from Bleak Sword DX? We're not going to lie, this game probably won't make the end-of-year lists as the best game of the year. With titles like Resident Evil 4 Remake, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and even Spider-Man 2 due out at the end of the year, how could it be otherwise? Despite this, I can tell you that Bleak Sword DX will probably be the game I mention the most. And why is that? Because, first and foremost, it's original in its presentation, offers a very good challenge and excellent value for money, despite its length. Unless you don't like games that require perseverance to complete, I strongly advise everyone to give it a try. They'll be pleasantly surprised, I'm sure.

Layers of Fear (2023) is, in my opinion, the true story Blooper Team wanted to tell when they released the first opus in 2016. With the power of the Unreal Engine 5, they were able to deliver their vision of psychological horror without compromise. The game has a few flaws and can be repetitive in places, but that's not enough in my opinion to overshadow the enormous qualities it possesses. Having played all the games in the series, Layers of Fear (2023) is Blooper Team's magnum opus.

9 / 10.0 - Diablo IV
Jun 30, 2023

In conclusion, I'm really enjoying Diablo IV. The gameplay is efficient and suits me perfectly. The story kept me on the edge of my seat right to the end, and its production quality served it particularly well. The sanctuary world is particularly large and I always have something to do even when my friends are offline. I hope that Blizzard will offer quality free content between now and the first paid expansion. For me, it's a success from start to finish, despite minor irritants.

It's hard not to suggest Oxenfree II: Lost Signals after all that's been said, isn't it? It's only natural: the game has a depth of storytelling and atmosphere not often found in video games. You become attached to the characters, to their lives, to what they've become and also to what they're going to become. And all this depends solely on you and the decisions you make on your journey. If, of course, you make it out alive.

9 / 10.0 - Pikmin 4
Jul 19, 2023

Pikmin 4 offers plenty of new great gameplay elements to make it an excellent follow-up to the previous entries. With the addition of the Dandori modes and your loyal dog Otchin, the series has never put forth so many strategic elements. It’s a real delight.

All in all, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is an excellent addition to the PC catalog. Especially as the genre covered is relatively rare. The game impresses both visually and audibly. Despite some script weaknesses, characters that are often too clichéd and minor technical flaws, the gameplay experience and sense of constantly renewed discovery are supported by levels and a slightly cracked, highly imaginative arsenal. In short, it's a strong comeback for Sony, which manages to erase, in part, the disappointment of March, but the premium price is hard to justify for a game that's over 2 years old now.

Vampire Survivors has quickly become one of my favorite games. Between two games of a big AAA title, it does its job of keeping us entertained, and we forget the time is passing. Simple and effective, it's accessible to everyone. In fact, I've had the chance to play it on all platforms. Some are more effective than others. I enjoyed my experience less on iOS/Android, as screen size plays a crucial role in our success.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is a real success. CD Projekt RED has successfully diversified the experience, forcing you to play in different ways. There are many new additions, both to the new district and to the existing ones. The new characters are charismatic and have real depth. The story is also very gripping, and some of the choices will be very difficult to make. When I think of successful DLC, Phantom Liberty will be one of the titles I'll recommend without hesitation.

9 / 10.0 - Sea of Stars
Oct 15, 2023

Some of you may find the game more challenging, as the comparison with Chrono Trigger is strong. And when it comes to nostalgia, not everyone will agree. But if you take the game for what it is, you're in for a real treat. Rare are the games of this genre in recent years that have had such an effect on me, the closest being Chained Echoes. But Sea of Stars is everything you could want in a role-playing game. It's beautiful, it's gripping, it's enjoyable from start to finish. Well, as of today, it lacks the Quebec narrative. On The Messenger, it was hilarious. But given that this will be available by the end of the year, there's very little to reproach the game for. A few occasional technical glitches, but otherwise nothing to complain about. Sea of Stars will be on several lists of the best games of 2023, and with good reason. Don't be surprised if it takes top spot on several of them.

9 / 10.0 - Super Mario RPG
Nov 15, 2023

In conclusion, this remake of Super Mario RPG is exactly what I was hoping for. Everything is as I remembered it, but with modern visuals and some gameplay improvements. It's shorter than I remembered, but I think that's thanks to the extra accessibility elements and the fact that I know a bit more about the genre than I did back then. Plus, if you want to introduce someone to the genre, there's an easier mode to enjoy the story. What's more, the game is entirely in French, so everyone will be able to understand it. In short, it's a great success, and I hope Nintendo will finally consider a sequel.

In conclusion, I'm impressed by what KO_OP has delivered as a first experience. I'm a big fan of narrative games, and this one is among the very good ones. I would have liked more, because you get through the 8 chapters in about 5 to 6 hours, and I got really attached to the characters. It's always possible to go back to make other choices or to find the flashbacks and memories hidden in the story, but I felt I'd completed my experience. All in all, if you're a fan of Life is Strange or Telltale Games, Goodbye Volcano High is a strong recommendation.
