6.5 / 10.0 - Sonic Frontiers
Nov 7, 2022

The game has oodles of vision and ambition but not enough polish to make it truly inviting, especially when released into a stacked calendar.

If being screamed at by giant crows appeals to you, then boy howdy here’s a videogame for you specifically.

6.5 / 10.0 - Tormented Souls
Aug 31, 2021

This is as much a compelling, mysterious videogame adventure as it is a janky, flawed game not always able to nail its ambitions. If Tormented Souls was a PS2 game we’d be seeing $100+ online listings, just like many of its inspirations. It fits that space like a torn, bloody glove.

7 / 10.0 - Rematch
Jun 20, 2025

While it has quite a bit going for it, Rematch doesn't offer a stellar solo experience by a long shot. You'll need to bring some friends to get the full potential out of this one. If you have $30 to burn and nothing else to play, however, it'll tide you over for a while.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins is a must-play for fans and action RPG enthusiasts who crave a ridiculous but fun power fantasy. It improves in every way upon the existing formula, and we’re excited to see the future of this franchise.

Mario & Luigi: Brothership is a wholesome, cheerful, and simply wonderful experience that is deserving of both Mario and Luigi's names.

Starship Troopers: Extermination is a fun, cooperative shooter that's easy to get into and hard to put down. Its clever base-building mechanics and ridiculous chaos are a delight, but constant performance issues, bugs, and instability keep it from greatness.

Star Wars Outlaws manages to free itself from the shackles of conventional open-world design trappings, but it doesn't have enough polish in its moment-to-moment gameplay to really stand out. Kay Vess and Nix are a fun duo to follow, but the overall story takes a long while to get going and provide any meaningful character growth. The combat isn't engaging, and the stealth mechanics are far too basic. Its outstanding visuals, fun exploration, and authentic world design do a lot of heavy lifting, and there is plenty of room for improvement in a potential sequel.

An exceptionally detailed game world with a strong focus on immersion and beauty instead of the underlying gameplay mechanics that would keep people playing past a single playthrough.

7 / 10.0 - PAYDAY 3
Sep 29, 2023

Payday 3 does a ton of heavy lifting to revolutionize its gameplay for a modern age, but struggles to provide the needed content to sustain that.

Choo-Choo Charles is a brilliant proof of concept and a unique twist on the horror market. It tapped into the Thomas the Tank Engine horror games and creepypastas fairly decently, got something good out of it, and molded it into a standalone game with a (technically) original villain.

7 / 10.0 - Power Chord
Feb 21, 2023

It was a lovely experience all in all. If I spoke about the story of the game more than I already did I would just outright spoil it, but it’s a short and simple premise that just serves to provide you with a miniscule purpose as you slay demons.

The game works nicely and gets a little better as you get further in. The only real issue is that I, like many other old-school NFS fans, had high expectations from it, but in the end, we got a mediocre Need for Speed game and hands-down what I feel is the worst racing game Criterion made so far.

No Place For Bravery gives the player a sense of control with its narrative – sometimes even presenting them with a dialogue option that could very well end the game at that moment. It’s that kind of weight attached to each decision made that immerses the player with a sort of responsibility for their actions.

7 / 10.0 - Wylde Flowers
Sep 19, 2022

I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed the cute, cartoony graphics and simplicity of the gameplay. Nothing overly complicated, no convoluted storyline or frustrating controls. While the game isn’t perfect, it was still a fun way to kill some time and enjoy what I love about the genre while avoiding what I don’t like about it.

It’s neat to see it here with a translated manual and all, but an as-is release makes this a curious part of a set at best for most players, and loses value as a standalone offering.

Expect an even further expansion on this from their live content team as the year progresses, but do so with the understanding that at some point, you’ll be required to spend on top of the $60 you invested on the game itself just to keep up with the pack.

I’m glad I spent a few weeks with Xenoblade Chronicles 3. The experience didn’t make me a JRPG diehard, but expanding your horizons is always good. For anyone in a similar boat, this probably isn’t the game to start with, thanks to its overlong length and a combat system that can come off as tedious to the uninitiated.
