7.3 / 10.0 - Monark
Feb 17, 2022

In our intent to devote the right attention even to the less noble projects, we would have really liked to give Monark a higher grade, especially to reward the ideas and efforts of a certainly talented team that is looking for its space in the market. However, there are still limits to overcome for a real leap in quality, and we are not just talking about budget.

7.5 / 10.0 - Beyond a Steel Sky
Feb 17, 2022

Net of some technical compromise, perhaps unacceptable for many, but justified by the budget of an evidently limited production, Beyond a Steel Sky is an appreciable title, and a worthy heir to that timeless classic that was Beneath a Steel Sky.

Horizon Forbidden West succeeds in maintaining the high premise that teased us in the first chapter, while reformulating and strengthening some of the weak points. The retro engineering of the machines, as well as the AI that made them so fearsome, remains sublime on both the technical and design sides, expanding the catalogue of enemies. The human AI isn't quite up to the task, but the exploration is one of the most rewarding to experience on Sony's console. The open world, with its ingenious puzzles and meticulously painted regions with colourful microclimates, is one of the best in recent years. There are no vacuous areas of meaninglessness; everything is condensed to offer an experience that is never monotonous, that respects the player's time, and never wanes interest. The story experiences a swinging situation. While on the one hand there are palpable flashes of brilliance, which almost eclipse the narrative quality problems highlighted in the first chapter, on the other hand you arrive towards the finale with breathlessness and many questions. Although there are some technical glitches, which never undermined the experience, eighty hours of gameplay flow pleasantly in one of the most evocative and inspired worlds ever created in the PlayStation forges. It's all enhanced by a sophisticated formula that brings out all the combat styles and lively nature of Horizon. Water, land and air are teeming with life, while among the moss and climbing plants we can explore rust giants of the past, seeing our reality from a new perspective. The aesthetics presented by the development team manage to excel and shine in every aspect throughout the experience, providing moments of pure visual enjoyment. Embedded beneath the programming codes, however, is a message that should be read with the heart, before the mind. I hope that the moral shock raised in the work will reach all fans, trusting that the social criticism made by Aloy will be useful to inspire our generation as well. All in all, this is a must-have for those who love the genre and who own a PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5, but it could have been more daring to break through the threshold of memorability.

9 / 10.0 - Sifu
Feb 7, 2022

Sifu is a rare gem that deserves to be discovered, tried out and evaluated subjectively by the widest possible pool of users. Just like our experience with Returnal, we find ourselves in front of a product that, besides marking the maturity of its development team, departs from all those clichés indispensable to grab the largest number of users and stands only on its originality and on the skill of its creators in packaging a title that does not give discounts and does not compromise. Sifu is a collection of genres that come together in a satisfying game, punishing in some ways but never unfair. It's a celebration of beat 'em ups, and martial arts cinema, adorned with a distinctive and inspired artwork that exudes style from every pixel. We're sure it won't appeal to everyone who tries it, but it's only right that it should, to avoid a general flattening of the experience that titles like Sifu want to keep varied and, above all, original. For all these reasons we have decided to give Sifu our Award.

8.8 / 10.0 - OlliOlli World
Feb 3, 2022

OlliOlli World was undoubtedly one of the surprises of early 2022. The developers' ability to blend the original concept of the series with the typical dynamics of two-dimensional platformers has proved brilliant and, in some ways, innovative. OlliOlli World is fun, challenging, satisfying and, above all, accessible to everyone. It meets the needs of both those looking for a product for hit and run sessions and those looking for a more challenging title where they can lose themselves for hours in unbridled completionism. If we add to all this an artistic compartment that, although it is inspired too much by Pendleton's works, manages to be pleasing and perfectly in line with the absurdities proposed by the game, it comes from that OlliOlli World is a product that, unless you hate skateboarding, platformers and Adventure Time, you should absolutely not miss and that, by virtue of having proposed a fresh identity is "different from the usual" to the series, has deserved our Award.

Dying Light 2 Stay Human is a solid sequel and one of the best structured open worlds of recent years. The great work on the level design enhances a huge and varied game world, where the gameplay evolves hand in hand with our choices, giving life to an extremely dynamic and never monotonous adventure. In spite of a revisable artificial intelligence and a visual impact between high and low, Techland has managed to create a production of absolute level, an experience destined to lay important foundations for a franchise, now more than ever projected towards a rosy and even more ambitious future. Considering the many references and the vicissitudes related to its development, the end result is undoubtedly less obvious than we would have thought, it is certainly not the revolution expected a few years ago, but certainly a fair evolution of a title that tries, often succeeding, to excel where others have failed in Action / Adventure.

If you've read our entire analysis of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, you won't be surprised by the grade beside it. Game Freak's new production is, as we have repeatedly said, a "diamond in the rough". A very important title for the Pokémon franchise, entrusted with the thankless task of forever changing the canons of the series and guiding them towards a new, more modern direction. A task that, however, clashes with a series of inconsistencies, missed opportunities and not very brave choices, which fail to make Pokémon Legends: Arceus shine as it deserves. The grade we've given it represents exactly the nature of this production: a title that's still far from earning everlasting glory, but also far from that ruinous insufficiency that the indignant people wanted to give it ex officio in recent weeks. We are sure that Pokémon Legends: Arceus will be talked about for a long time, dividing the fan base into those who will adore it as a deity from another dimension and those who will consider it, simply, a good starting point for the franchise. Whether you're a die-hard fan or just an amateur of the creatures created by Game Freak, our advice is only one: don't be misled by that amount of content edited ad hoc to show you only the shortcomings of this production, finding yourself proudly waving the pitchfork for something you don't even know, and play it before taking sides... you might find everything you've always wanted from a Pokémon production.

Rainbow Six Extraction will be immediately familiar to those who have already played Rainbow Six Siege, as the title's distinctive gunplay remains the same. In the battle against the Chimera parasite there's less emphasis on destruction and more emphasis on methodical, quiet room clearing while also relying on new equipment to limit enemy actions. Progress is slow at first and may be less interesting for some, but when it gets going, and you're ready for more difficult challenges, Rainbow Six Extraction proves rewarding and addictive. Those looking for an alternative to competitive gaming will find a heart-pounding challenge to face strictly with trusted friends. Ubisoft Montreal has already laid down a good foundation to keep the title constantly updated, and it's a fundamental aspect that only with time will we be able to fully judge.

6.8 / 10.0 - Labyrinth Legend
Jan 13, 2022

Labyrinth Legend is not a bad game but it is undoubtedly a production that accuses the weight of its "smartphone" nature. The simple and immediate gameplay is a boon for the type of device on which it was originally conceived but it is hopelessly too simplistic and reductive on any gaming platform that can accommodate more layered experiences.

9 / 10.0 - God of War
Jan 12, 2022

All in all, this PC version is a jewel within an even greater jewel which is God of War. The four years of waiting are therefore more than justified and, above all, do not weigh in the slightest on the game's performance. God of War has not aged, it has even improved and contributes to the already huge pool of games for PC users. Through a fine porting work, and thanks to the bases of excellence, we speak of a video game that should not be missing in the libraries of any fan.

9 / 10.0 - Halo Infinite
Dec 6, 2021

Despite a turbulent development and many initial doubts, Halo Infinite succeeds where other FPS have failed: excite with a campaign level and entertain with a solid gameplay and well thought out. Remains the disappointment of some shortcomings at day one and especially a technical system suffering in many places and saved mainly by an unparalleled fluidity and an inspired art style. 343 has nevertheless managed to create a chapter ready to start again, through an incredible journey, decided more than ever to reconcile with the old fans of the saga and at the same time attract new potential users. The King of the first-person shooter on consoles is officially back, now the future is all in the hands of the American software company, which will have to prove that it knows how to manage and support the title for the next few years. Halo, is it over? No, this is just the beginning.
