With Still Wakes the Deep, The Chinese Room brings us a walking simulator inspired by the work of John Carpenter that evokes unease and mystery with a slow-paced narrative. However, I don't think it has enough to stand out, as it doesn't offer anything truly innovative for the genre. It definitely falls short of the studio's previous works such as Dear Esther or Everybody's Gone to the Rapture.

Ender Magnolia: Bloom in the Mist offers an experience very much in line with its predecessor, with an exquisite Metroidvania that is as challenging as it is beautiful. The artistic style, setting, atmosphere, depth, characters, gameplay mechanics, difficulty, enemy design, and background make it one of those titles that cannot be overlooked.

Fantasian Neo Dimension is the adaptation of the Apple Arcade game that is finally coming to other consoles, allowing us to enjoy this RPG gem on all current systems. Mistwalker's title is fun even when grinding, which is more than necessary for those who like to access the genre and want to get to grips with it. In addition, its gameplay mechanics, coupled with the beautiful world made in dioramas, make it one of those RPGs that cannot be missing from the library of anyone who has enjoyed Sakaguchi's work since times gone by.

With Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, Owlcat Games invites us on a space odyssey that immerses us in a dark and complex universe, in an RPG full of action, intrigue, and moral decisions. A title full of epic moments, decisions that shape the fate of entire star systems, and a very well-told story. A video game created by a passionate team that had the vision to bring to life an ambitious role-playing experience set in Warhammer. And they succeeded.

Creativity, challenge and highly ingenious puzzles is what Dungeons of Dreadrock 2 - The Dead King's Secret offers, one of the best puzzle games of 2024. An indie video game that departs from the typical to offer a challenging experience, full of ingenious puzzles, based on classic concepts. But the best part is how Prof. Dr. Christoph Minnameier manages to recycle all this, over and over again throughout 100 levels, managing to keep things fresh with intellectually stimulating situations.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle perfectly captures the spirit of the film saga, with an adventure that manages to put us in the skin of the most famous archaeologist in a unique way. a marvel, which manages to capture the feeling of the movies in an excellent way. The work of MachineGames makes us feel that we are really in the skin of Indiana Jones, throwing punches and hitting Nazis with anything we have at hand. A game with a level of detail of scandal that manages to position itself as one of the best adventures in the catalog of the excellent archaeologist.

Sunny Syrup Studio surprises with Spirit Mancer, a platformer that offers frenetic combat, a hilarious story and an absolutely delightful pixel art visuals. A title that I can recommend without hesitation, both to lovers of the classics of yesteryear and to modern players who appreciate the magic of handmade pixel art. A little gem not to be overlooked.

The Spirit of the Samurai is an interesting samurai adventure, whose wonderful art style and use of a stop motion animation technique give it a unique personality. A game that although it does not revolutionize the genre, it presents a very elaborate artistic style with a dark, gloomy and desolate atmosphere, with a wonderful level of detail. The 2.5D backgrounds, together with the design of the enemies, generate an immersion that at times is really impressive.

After much work and numerous updates, Coffee Stain released Satisfactory version 1.0, bringing the management genre to its highest point. Coffee Stain gave life to something unique, where building a huge factory to produce just one item to send through the space elevator is quite an experience. Undoubtedly, a GOTY of life that -I'm sure- anyone who decides to give it a chance will really enjoy it.

Call of Olympus is a DLC that, while remaining in the familiar territory, seeks to renew the formula of the Kingdom saga thanks to the addition of interesting new features, an excellent addition for a title that still has a lot to give. Undoubtedly, we are facing a great excuse to return -or also discover- one of the best games in its genre.

With Athena Crisis, Nakazawa Tech brings us a very colorful and highly entertaining strategy experience with tactical battles that are not suitable for the clueless, a game that although it has a campaign and a demanding multiplayer, its great value lies in the level editor. In this sense, the possibilities are really endless, offering us the possibility of generating dialogues, stories and characters that we can involve in the conflicts we want to create.

Not Yet - Codex Lost
Nov 28, 2024

Freemana invites us to become a wizard with Codex Lost, a title that despite its limitations, is enjoyable and offers a different approach to the soulslike genre. However, the seams are visible at key points. An example of this is the lack of polish in the combat system, the lack of character weight, graphics and sounds, the latter being a factor that may cause many players not to give it a chance.

Garcia Hotspur and Johnson return to the wanderings with Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered, a very good remastering that keeps the 2011 cult experience intact. A game with an author's imprint marked to the core deserves to remain as it was conceived by two geniuses such as Suda51 and Mikami. Because it is precisely all the good and the bad, its strengths and weaknesses, that make Shadows of the Damned a timeless cult videogame and an experience difficult to forget.

The Guerrilla Games franchise jumps to the blocks with LEGO Horizon Adventures, a visually striking title but that does not use the identifying characteristics of this type of adaptations. a technically delicious game with an entertaining story, but that in the gameplay is not up to the level of LEGO or Horizon. In spite of this, I think that the little ones will enjoy it without too many problems, especially if they play with several friends.

The Game Kitchen brings back the mythical sword Mea Culpa in a bittersweet DLC that lacks in narrative terms, but enriches the playability of the best metroidvania of 2023. The return of some iconic characters and, of course, of the mythical sword feels like a caress. However, these two elements were so well developed in the first installment, that here they just feel like a sort of fan service.

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered invites us to an epic journey in a post-apocalyptic world more beautiful than ever, perfect for new players, but with no new features for veterans. Those who already have the original, and want to see it in all its splendor, will be able to update it for a small fee. For its part, the remastered version includes the expansion, which offers more than 40 hours of action and adventures. In any case, I don't think an upgrade was necessary. The game remains just as colorful and fun as before.

Yes - Neva
Nov 4, 2024

Nomada Studio returns with Neva, a heartbreaking, emotional and contemplative adventure, whose visuals and sound make it one of the best experiences of the year. A beautiful experience to behold, that entertains from beginning to end without being too long, and that without much effort, manages to leave a mark in the heart.

Black Myth: Wukong is an adventure that pays tribute to the original work, inviting us to discover the Chinese mythology with an amazing graphics and action-packed gameplay. Game Science managed to give life to a magnificent adaptation that seems far from finished and that respects the original material in great detail. While it is true that the story is not told in a very clear way and that it suffers from technical problems, we cannot deny that on the other side of the scale we find an excellent title, with a combat system full of possibilities and a scandalous artwork.

Kong: Survivor Instinct is a platformer set in the MonsterVerse where we see the action from the point of view of a human, making us envy the gorilla of Skull Island. The approach is very interesting, but not quite convincing. The game lasts about 8 hours, but from the very first moments it is evident that the difficulty seeks to hook the player based on the repetitiveness and the scarce appearances of the titans.

A year after the release of Starfield, Bethesda returns with Shattered Space, a DLC that abandons procedural worlds to offer a more contained narrative experience. Exploring Va'ruun'kai feels good and rewards us with a narratively solid story and missions that make us think 'outside the box'. While the new approach and design is more than welcome, the experience as a whole needs something more substantial to reach its full potential.
