Cookie Cutter, Subcult Joint's debut game, fills our hands with pieces of meat, metal and guts in a highly stylized metroidvania, with frenetic and colorful combat. The story is a classic tale of revenge, but one that lends itself to enjoyment, especially thanks to the humor that accompanies it.

Orbit Studio and Play on Worlds offer an interesting twist with Ebenezer and the Invisible World, a metroidvania that adapts Charles Dickens' work with a lot of style and fun. It is definitely not the revolution of the genre, but it is an immersive experience that boasts a visual style that accompanies a nice Christmas story. An interesting proposal to take into account.

Chessarama takes the concepts of chess and translates them into a simple gameplay that challenges us to solve entertaining and complex puzzles through analytical thinking and didactics. It is a proposal that can be enjoyed without any knowledge of chess. But at the same time it rewards us by teaching us several concepts with which to break down that barrier that perhaps prevents us from accessing the traditional board game.

With The Kindeman Remedy, Troglobytes Games offers a murky experience, full of morally questionable situations, that will make us accomplices in a heinous investigation. A good option for those who want to try something different, with an unusual twist within the genre, which is fun, at least during the first few hours.

Valfaris: Mecha Therion, the new work of Steel Mantis, is the sequel to the acclaimed Valfaris that bets its entire legacy on a radical change of genre. It is one of those titles that we can leave installed on our hard disk since the space it occupies is well used. Besides, bursting mutant insects or battling a colossal boss to the sound of the best heavy metal is epic at any time, day or season of the year.

Salt and Sacrifice is the sequel to Salt and Sanctuary, Ska Studios' acclaimed 2D souls like, which seeks to reinvent itself by adding new systems and mechanics. However, it doesn't quite hit the nail on the head with certain mechanics, which leaves it a couple of steps below its predecessor. Even so, it manages to hold its ground solidly within the genre, thanks to experimenting with elements or systems that stand out in other renowned franchises.

The Pale Reach adds few new features to the gameplay proposal, but it is still an excellent excuse to sail again through the turbulent waters of one of the best games of 2023. It's not a DLC that makes Dredge a much better experience than it is, although it is a slightly more interesting one thanks to its two hours of new content.

The SteamWorld universe expands with SteamWorld Build, a title that tackles city building in a very accessible way and adds mechanics that suit the genre very well. Those looking for something new within the franchise will hardly be disappointed and, for those who do not know it, it can be an interesting gateway.

Even without bringing anything particularly new to the genre and its obvious inspirations The Last Faith is a metroidvania that, on its own merit, provides an interesting and fun experience. Kumi Souls Games does enough merits to be able to stand on its own feet, adding a nice proposal within an overpopulated genre.

In Stars and Time invites us to live the experience of being trapped in a time loop, repeating the same thing over and over again, while we seek to escape from it without losing our sanity. insertdisc5 has managed with very little to give life to a truly moving experience. To a journey that repeats itself so much that, when I reach its end, I couldn't help but feel a little melancholic.

Worldless, the title of Noname Studios, gives a curious approach to the metroidvania genre by integrating a turn-based combat system, as well as an ingenious and very stylized visual section. A video game with an incredible charisma, which is built from the successful use of its audiovisual and mechanical elements, as well as a very interesting interpretative narrative.

Vengeance of Mr. Peppermint is a beat 'em up inspired by movies like Oldboy or The Chaser that, while boasting style and plenty of violence, falls short in several key aspects. It's not the worst game of the year, although it can't be denied that it's perhaps one of the most disappointing. Its trailer gave a glimpse of something that later in practice does not end up being fulfilled. Hack The Publisher could have given life to a perfect homage to Korean thrillers.

The Dragon of Dojima is back in Like a Dragon Gaiden, a new entry in the saga that, far from being a spin-off, offers a lot of action and answers to numerous unknowns. An extremely fun installment, although this comes hand in hand with an inescapable nostalgia factor and knowing how to appreciate the references to characters or situations from previous games.

The Talos Principle 2, the sequel to Croteam's acclaimed title, offers a wonderful experience full of puzzles that will test our logic and reasoning skills. Undoubtedly this sequel is not only a benchmark of the genre along with Portal, but it surpasses its predecessor in every aspect, especially in its narrative that seems more complex, since it does not revolve around the protagonist and his motivations, but also on the NPC that populate the world.

World of Horror, Paweł Koźmiński's title proves that you don't need Unreal Engine 5 and volumetric lights to torment the heart of a horror fan. A game that handles subtleties well and mixes them with a dash of Junji Ito-style gore, with simple but gripping stories, enhanced by the vulnerability of our characters and the consequences we will have to face after every decision.
