NintendoBoy's Reviews

Is this Bundle worth your Gold Coins? I would say “it depends”. Even with the facilitators, the gameplay is still very difficult by today’s standards, which may put off some of the more casual players. It was a different era, when games had to be excessively difficult so that they could have a longer lifespan in the player’s hands. Furthermore, when you compare the refinement of the gameplay with gems like Super Mario Bros 3 or the Mega Man series, the player feels more frustrated than challenged to try again. The product is aimed at those who are nostalgic or a curious player who wants to explore little known games. Now, if we take into account the fact that these are titles that were previously exclusive to Japan and are coming to the West for the first time, this makes the collection more than indispensable for every video game fan, even if it’s just out of curiosity.

The game close its balance with a lot of grinding and a very punishing difficulty most of the time, not to mention that – besides the new characters – it doesn't offer anything to the experience that sounds like a renewal in itself. Despite these factors mentioned above, the game carries with it the strengths of its predecessor, which are sometimes overshadowed by certain factors that seem unbalanced when put into perspective. I assume that this sequel manages to deliver an experience that will please fans of its niche, despite being a dull experience most of the time.

If I had to describe Celestia: Chain of Fate in just a few words it would have to be “what a shame”. When I first saw the teaser for this game, I hoped that Agate Games had created something good. But instead, Celestia is simply unable to stand out in any meaningful way. And honestly, I found it difficult to play this for more than 20 minutes.

LOLLIPOP CHAINSAW RePOP keeps everything that made the original game establish itself in the industry as a cult classic, with welcoming improvements in quality of life and gameplay. However, performance problems end up making the experience considerably worse than it was on the previous consoles. It takes a certain dedication to ignore so many performance problems all the time.

9 / 10.0 - PICO PARK 2
Sep 9, 2024

Overall, PICO PARK 2 is a very fun game that surprised me in terms of content, because I thought it would be a short and shallow game. I would have loved to have been able to play in the chaos of eight players, but even with 3 or 4 the fun is guaranteed.

Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club is a testament to the developers ability to consolidate a top-quality mystery. Although the logical structure can be confusing and not very comfortable, especially for new players of the genre, what we have here is a truly unmissable experience that consolidates itself as the pinnacle of the series so far and shows that there is room for the genre to flourish even more in the current market.

Fate/stay night REMASTERD finally allows fans to officially enjoy the first narrative in the Fate series. For those who have always been curious about reading the VN and finding out why many consider the anime to be a bad version of the history, well, here's the chance to discover. Just be prepared for some boring moments where there are long monologues or super detailed descriptions of some things that may not be so interesting or that have already been described minutes before.

8 / 10.0 - Gundam Breaker 4
Aug 28, 2024

Despite my criticisms, I consider GUNDAM BREAKER 4 an experience that entertained me in a way I haven't been entertained in a long time, working very well as a casual experience. With an interesting shonen story, simple themes and combat that, despite unbalancing the difficulty in a way that makes it possible to play without the game taking you out of your comfort zone at any point, still offers a very good experience to relax and play something, without thinking too hard about it.

8.5 / 10.0 - WitchSpring R
Aug 26, 2024

WitchSpring R may not be the most refined and complex title in the genre, but it is without a doubt a game that manages to tell a captivating story, with interesting characters and an engaging and balanced gameplay. Despite being a relatively short game when compared to other RPGs, WitchSpring R also stands out for the life quality of its mechanics, serving as a benchmark for even the biggest titles in the genre. Overall, I believe that WitchSpring R is certainly a game that will remain in the memory of everyone who gives it a chance.

8.5 / 10.0 - Bakeru
Aug 23, 2024

I already had high expectations when I saw that Good-Feel was behind the development of BAKERU, and it pleases me to say that yes, they know how to make a good action platformer that is really fun to play. Its zany references to Japanese culture may be lost to the average player, but for me, they just make the game that much more charming and appealing.

I would love to talk more about That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime ISEKAI Chronicles, but this experience is too simple to make for a deep review: he is shallow in almost everything he sets out to do, especially when he tries to sell a superficial building system content with being insipid. However, I won't be unfair: I was satisfied with the combat, which is well above average, with the way it retraces the story and with the care dedicated to the original work, but there is no incentive to revisit the title after a few hours invested. Depending on how much of a fan you are, it might be better to just stick to the anime.

8.5 / 10.0 - OBAKEIDORO!
Aug 20, 2024

The gameplay-loop of OBAKEIDORO! is simple, and the matches take five minutes or less, so it's not stressful and doesn't get in the way in the long run. My only problem with the gameplay is that the matchmaking takes a while, and it almost always ends with Japanese players. But if that's not a problem for you, the game offers what it promotes: practical and somewhat chaotic online fun with players (depending on your team).

Tales from Toyotoki: Arrival of the Witch is a visual novel with a very emotional plot. There are several areas for improvement and the English translation is unfortunately one of Aksys Games' worst, but there is a humanity in the characters that still resonates and is worth knowing.

7 / 10.0 - F1 Manager 2024
Aug 11, 2024

As a fan of manager games and a fan of Formula 1, despite not watching racing in years, I was very excited about the release of this game. After finally playing it, I was disappointed with the overall experience, but at the same time, I didn't see myself putting it down or wanting to finish this review as quickly as possible. F1 Manager 24 is a title that I see myself coming back to play even more and I sincerely hope that Frontier continues to support it as there is potential for something good here.

Natsu-Mon is, without a doubt, a special game in Millennium Kitchen's catalog. The feeling of nostalgia, discovery and adventure that the studio has mastered so well is more refined than ever, maintaining its essence and without falling into a cycle of repetitive and recycled games. In this way, it can be said that Natsu-Mon: 20th Century Summer Kid is a highly recommended game not only for fans of cozy games, but also for anyone who was once a child.

ONE PIECE ODYSSEY is a very ambitious game based on the popular series, which features great character models that are very well animated, has a surprisingly memorable soundtrack, and has super fun dialogues, almost feeling like they were written by Oda himself. However, it suffers a bit from trying to please all audiences at the same time with contrasting ideas and mechanics, trying to bring both a new story and at the same time it is a retelling of past arcs; and managing to create an innovative combat system that is unfortunately accompanied by several mechanics that don't make you need to engage with it to its full potential.

This collection is more interesting in idea than in content; its mere existence is indeed a very cool thing, but the content presented here, the three Valis games, doesn't stand the test of time very well, as they carry a very, very eighties lack of polish.

The re-release of SNK VS. CAPCOM SVC CHAOS serves to introduce the game to new players and to awaken that feeling of nostalgia in long-time players. Regarding the idea of preservation, it's always good to have official means to experience a classic, which was confined to 6th generation platforms. The online mode adds value to the game, works very well due to the rollback netcode and, personally, I hope the community doesn't abandon it any time soon. The price, on consoles, could be more inviting since it's a port of a single game with no major new features, but even with all the problems it's fun and a good option for people who love an one-on-one battle.

7.5 / 10.0 - MARS 2120
Aug 2, 2024

I believe the game can deliver considerable fun for those who miss the rare releases in the classic Metroid series, as well as for players looking for a short and fun journey that expands on the roots of the genre that Nintendo's series helped establish in the industry. Many of its problems will disappear after proper technical optimization, allowing this Brazilian game to shine at what it does best, despite its flaws.
