8.5 / 10.0 - Foolish Mortals
Apr 10, 2026

Foolish Mortals is, above all, a love letter to longtime fans of the genre. While the influence of the classics is clearly present, it becomes a true nostalgia trip without directly copying them. It could have used a bit more fine-tuning here and there, but if you enjoyed the ’90s entries of series like Monkey Island or Broken Sword, it’s unmissable.

6 / 10.0 - The Occultist
Apr 7, 2026

It’s disappointing that, after nearly four years of development, DALOAR Studios can only show off awards cobbled together from earlier demos on its website, while wasting both the talent of a great actor and a promising project in the name of marketing. Like it or not, in a narrative-driven game, visuals cannot make up for the absence of a compelling story. Let’s hope the performance issues will be addressed.

If this is how Crystal Dynamics envisions the future of the franchise, they’d be better off closing the coffin they’ve opened and burying it deep again, because Legacy of Kain: Ascendance has turned out to be one of the biggest disappointments of 2026. Anyone expecting the latest LoK installment to ride in like a mythical steed is bound to be let down - because Bit Bot Media is essentially trying to sell the same bloated, long-dead horse all over again in the hope of turning a profit.

Apopia: Sugar Coated Tale is a beautifully hand-drawn adventure with a distinctive sense of humor—one that offers more depth than its lighthearted tone and quirky characters might suggest at first glance. What we’ll never know, however, is how it might have turned out if it had been released four years earlier as a more compact experience, with fewer filler sections.

Although the team at PlayEveryWare tried to smooth over the flaws and shortcomings of Defiance Remastered, it’s hard to be entirely satisfied, as the abundance of pointless and unnecessary downloadable content can easily become overwhelming. The base game itself isn’t free of issues either, but it still fulfills the principle of being necessary and sufficient - more than enough for anyone who wants to finally see the story of Raziel and Kain through to its conclusion.

Aspyr Media, together with the most dedicated fans, has done everything possible to ensure that Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered touches the hearts of longtime players. Despite the outdated gameplay mechanics and some issues with the new version, the story and the music easily carry the experience. I can wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone, as it remains a valuable piece of video game history.

7.5 / 10.0 - Cairn
Mar 4, 2026

Cairn essentially defines itself perfectly: it’s full of highs, yet—especially from a technical standpoint—not without its lows. While the end result is satisfying overall, it could have used a bit more time in the oven.

Shadows of the Afterland is a very pleasant way to kick off the year. Its an adventure featuring a twist-filled story, meaningful themes, and puzzles that aren’t overly difficult. At the same time, its subtle, unobtrusive humor occasionally brings a smile to your face. Despite the fact that we’re tasked with investigating the circumstances of our own death, it’s an experience I’ll remember as surprisingly chill. Not a bad deal at all for €15!

Postmodern Adventures has once again delivered a true gem. Although this game isn’t without its flaws either, the excellent adventure and its overall presentation make it easy to be far more forgiving. In light of the absolutely terrific atmosphere, it’s painfully disappointing that the story’s ending feels rushed. Fans of classic adventure games should definitely take note, and for players who love Lovecraftian themes, it’s an outright must-play.

6 / 10.0 - The Run
Feb 5, 2026

I’m genuinely sorry that The Run ultimately turned out to be just an average production, and even knowing that it probably never aimed to be more than a B-movie horror experience, I still can’t see it as anything beyond that. Still, even an average film can be entertaining at times, especially when it’s an interactive one, where the story and its branching choices can offer three hours or more of engagement. On a completely dull evening, you probably won’t go wrong with it.

7 / 10.0 - Earth Must Die
Jan 27, 2026

This game doesn’t promise anything groundbreaking within the genre, but fans of classic LucasArts titles should definitely give it a shot, as Earth Must Die has its fair share of strong moments. If that weren’t enough, the outstanding, truly one-of-a-kind voice acting alone might be reason enough to try it out. That said, only take it for a spin once the issues have been fixed.

Catherine: Full Body still delivers a truly singular experience even today: a boldly committed work that blends mature storytelling, logical challenges, and dark humor into a cohesive and captivating package. The abundance of extra content, strong visual presentation, and occasionally punishing yet ultimately rewarding gameplay make it an excellent experience overall. The only potential drawbacks are the difficulty, the controls, and the repetitive block-pushing sequences, which may frustrate some players—along with the fact that seeing all endings requires investing a considerable number of hours. That said, for those who are open to its unusual gameplay and its unconventional take on relationship issues, Catherine offers a genuinely unique experience that can linger in one’s memory for a long time.

9 / 10.0 - Windosill
Jan 23, 2026

The high score may seem a bit strange at first. But to use an example: I can’t really compare a simple toy to a more complex board game. This is a simple toy — and a very good one at that. I’d primarily recommend it to a younger audience, but playful adults looking to relax won’t be disappointed either. As a shared activity, it works wonderfully.

8 / 10.0 - TR-49
Jan 21, 2026

Behind the code-breaking lies nothing more than a blend of a deduction game and an audio drama, which—despite its simple design and minimal gameplay mechanics—manages to remain engaging and effective. Even with the large amount of reading involved, it never becomes overly demanding from a logical standpoint, though it does require a certain mindset to fully appreciate it.

Fans of The Golden Idol should definitely give it a try, even despite its flaws. It has its strong moments and a distinct atmosphere, and on top of that, the developer’s care and attention are clearly evident. In my view, even if it doesn’t become a cult classic, it will certainly find a small but dedicated fan base.

6 / 10.0 - My Father Lied
Jan 2, 2026

It’s obvious that the developers put a great deal of work into the game. On the one hand, Mesopotamian culture and history are presented well and detailed enough to be informative, but not so much that it becomes boring. Those who feel inclined can easily dive deeper into the subject on their own, as I did. On the other hand, the game is packed with puzzles, which in fact make up the bulk of the experience. While efforts were made to keep them varied, their sheer number may be off-putting for some players. The game does have its flaws, most notably in its mechanics, and the visual presentation also leaves something to be desired. The core story mainly serves as a framework and, unfortunately, isn’t particularly strong.

8 / 10.0 - Rue Valley
Dec 12, 2025

Overall, Rue Valley gets off to a very strong start, and after a brief period of uncertainty, it manages to bring the story to a satisfying close. When it came to choosing and shaping our personality, I felt the developers missed a few genuinely promising opportunities, but I didn’t regret at all being there alongside Eugene during one of the long, at times painfully self-honest hours of his life.

10 / 10.0 - Blue Prince
Dec 9, 2025

Blue Prince presents a bold and enjoyable experiment, as long as we’re willing to accept its subverted core rules. Tonda Ros, the creator behind the game, set out with the primary goal of making something unlike anything seen before. I’m happy to report that he succeeded. After nearly ten years of development, the project manages to bring a fresh new color to the genre and earns a rightful place among its greatest representatives.

Slow and strictly a one-time experience. A missed opportunity, as it could have been so much more with the right amount of care.

Just like its protagonist, South of Midnight has no desire to save the world. It simply tells a twist-filled, atmospheric, and at times heart-wrenching story, presented in the form of a slightly old-fashioned yet entertaining game. It has a peculiar charm that pulls you in so deeply that I was constantly counting the moments until I could continue. And I’m not alone in this: based on online reviews, many people have been “complaining” about the same thing after sitting down with it—some even managed to play through the entire game over a long weekend, which is no small feat for a roughly ten-hour experience. And really, what more should we expect from a video game than to enchant us as completely as if we were ten-year-old kids again?
