8.5 / 10.0 - Endless Dungeon
Oct 16, 2023

Endless Dungeon is a very good roguelite that, while it can be enjoyed solo, shines much more brightly when played cooperatively.

8.5 / 10.0 - Last Train Home
Dec 8, 2023

Inspired by a piece of history that most people never heard of, Last Train Home is a competent mix of management and RTS gameplay, although the stealth mecanics leave something to be desired. Those eagerly waiting for Frostpunk 2 should consider adding it to their Christmas wishlist.

8.5 / 10.0 - Secrets of Grindea
Mar 7, 2024

After nine years, Secrets of Grindea finally leaves Early Access. The finished product is undoubtedly a fun, charming action RPG à la Zelda with a great build variety and an emphasis on loot and farming. However, it does suffer a little when compared with other, similar games that released during its long development cycle.

8.4 / 10.0 - Isonzo
Sep 14, 2022

Same as its predecessors Verdun and Tannenberg, Isonzo is a niche shooter, and this reflects both in its gameplay mechanics and in its production budget. Undeniable technical limitations, however, cannot hide the fact that Isonzo is a solid game that fully shows the passion Blackmill Games poured into it, and is especially enjoyable if played with an organized group. Recommended, as long as you're aware of what you're getting into and don't mind getting killed by someone you can't even see.

8.3 / 10.0 - Salt and Sacrifice
May 9, 2022

Despite some flaws here and there, much like its predecessor Salt and Sacrifice is a solid soulslike that will keep fans of the genre diving into it, one "obliterated" after the next. Everyone else should be wary of its often unforgiving enemies, though.

8.2 / 10.0 - Iron Harvest
Aug 31, 2020

For a first foray into the RTS genre, Iron Harvest 1920+ is a very good proof of competence. It's not perfect; while it's rich in singleplayer content, six maps is too little of a pool for multiplayer, and the gameplay could use some refinement. But it's a solid start, and the potential for greater things is definitely there.

8.2 / 10.0 - Haven
Dec 14, 2020

Haven is a great comfort game. Relaxing music, pleasant color palette, dialogues that are often light but never empty. Yu and Kay's adventure on source never fails to be entertaining, and if the combat seems a bit shallow at first, it will certainly put you to the test as you progress. Some things could be better, of course; but after the excellent Furi, Haven is another proof of The Game Bakers' competence.

8.2 / 10.0 - Outriders
Apr 6, 2021

Giving Outriders a score is a tougher challenge than I thought. The core gameplay loop is fun, incredibly so when it clicks, the loot system is well thought out and wielding the powers of the Anomaly is power-tripping. But the game is also a slow burner, enemy variety is disappointingly poor, there is no scaling of content for party members of lower levels, and audio and animations aren't always that great. But the core is good, and we have faith that People Can Fly will polish those rough edges.

8.2 / 10.0 - Minecraft Legends
Apr 14, 2023

Minecraft Legends is a well-crafted action strategy game that drops us in a procedurally generated open world where we have to face the threat of the Piglin invasion, offering around fifteen hours of content for the main campaign. However, while the simple story points at a game mainly targeted at younger audiences, the gameplay mechanics require a bit of confidence with control schemes and might be hard to manage for less experienced players.

8 / 10.0 - Scarlet Nexus
Jun 23, 2021

Scarlet Nexus offers an excellent combat system, paired with creative visual designs and with the courageous choice of having two different (but intertwined) storylines. Unfortunately, a general lack of attention to detail and less-than-impressive environments prevent it from excelling, but it's definitely a safe choice if you're into japanese action RPGs.

8 / 10.0 - Dice Legacy
Sep 8, 2021

Dice Legacy is a competent strategy/survival game with some neat and well-implemented ideas; the random element is there, but generally easy to handle, and good planning trumps sheer luck. However, it isn't particularly rich in content, and it might get grindy if you're aiming for the hardest difficulties.

Aiko's Choice is a solid addition to Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun, which expands the game's story by introducting a new villain straight from Aiko's past. The three main levels will keep you entertained for a few hours, but if you're expecting new mechanics or daring gameplay you might be in for a disappointment.

8 / 10.0 - Grounded
Sep 26, 2022

At the standard settings and medium difficulty, Grounded is more demanding than it might appear at first glance: at the start of the game, everything that's bigger than a tick will slaughter you and it takes a bit to figure out how to progress; equipment also needs not only to be crafted but also maintained. Luckily, the game also offers settings that allow for a more forgiving experience, perhaps better suited to anyone who's planning on going solo. Other than that, Grounded is technically solid, and its audio can be incredibly atmospheric (and a little bit scary).

Sackboy comes to PC, and it's a big adventure indeed: our knitted hero will have to travel through five worlds in his quest to stop Vex from turning the entire Craftworld into a chaotic nightmare. Overall, the game is a good 3D platformer with an excellent soundtrack and a very creative visual style. Shame that the haptic feedback doesn't really bring anything to the table, though.

Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun is a solid boomer shooter whose service honors the Emperor, and will certainly be very welcome by those who have been waiting for a 40k FPS since Fire Warrior. However, while it doesn't have any significant flaw it also never really excels.

8 / 10.0 - Lunacid
Nov 7, 2023

Lunacid is certainly an intriguing action rpg with plenty of old-school charm, but audiences more used to modern games might find some of its quirks – and its balance that heavily favors magic builds – a bit annoying.

Momodora: Moonlit Farewell is a good metroidvania, that fully shows the 10+ year experience Guilherme 'rdein' has developed in crafting this genre of games. However, while it doesn't have any flaws worthy of notice, it also lacks that "wow" factor. It's just a good, honest game, but that is already something to be proud of.

Feb 28, 2024

Terminator: Dark Fate Defiance is overall a good modern-style RTS (so no resource gathering or base building) with a presentation that, considering budget restraints, can be very satisfying despite some drops in framerate. However, be warned that the campaign can be fairly frustrating even at medium difficulty.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite is a valid cooperative shooter, one where you can just drop in and shoot stuff with glee, or put your coordination and teamplay to the test if you're looking for a challenge. There are friendly AIs, but they aren't great and solo play only works at the lower difficulties. Finally, while the game is competent and fun, it also shows its low budget.

7.8 / 10.0 - Martha is Dead
Feb 24, 2022

While a terrible murder is what sets the events of Martha is Dead in motion, the real focus of the game is Giulia's psyche and how it was affected by past and present thraumas. LKA's new adventure might not be suited for everyone due to the brutality of certain scenes, but it is certainly courageous and competent.
