But even still, there's still not much. It's slow-paced, laggy, and the environment just isn't friendly to you. The curbs will just stop you in your tracks, and the other vehicles will just keep going as if you don't exist. Everything is against you in Bus Driver Simulator Countryside, and in turn, I am against Bus Driver Simulator Countryside.
Although I can't entirely fault the story in Warp Frontier or the voice acting performances, it was hard to engage in the narrative at all due to the frustrating puzzles and low-quality feel that the game presents. The almost randomness of solving puzzles to advance really did make for a negative experience overall that I can't see many wanting to return to.
Splatter – Zombiecalypse Now is a wild, over-the-top, trigger-happy shooter where your ZR button will be worn out if you stick with it for more than a few levels – and well done if you do! Don't get me wrong, the visuals are gory and chaotic, but they clash with the dark, gritty setting and zoomed out top-down view, resulting in a pretty messy and 'gets old pretty quickly' experience.
35MM is a messy blend of multiple genres lacking any clear definition or direction. The tense atmosphere that it builds isn't enough to keep you invested and definitely needs more depth in its gameplay, story, and performance. This is a real shame, as there is clear potential for this to be far better than what we have received.
Planet Quiz: Learn & Discover is aimed at a specific audience and is aware that it's not going to be topping many peoples wishlist, but if you have a love for all things Earth, animals, and culture, I'm sure you'd be able to have a fairly decent, albeit short, time with this. That said, if you are passionate about those subjects, it's likely that this may not be very challenging at all, and just confirm what you know. Its three quiz modes are the same and do little outside of this to keep gameplay fresh and exciting after a short burst of rounds.
It brings back the stiff and awkward controls, giving the impression that you're playing on a very muddy pitch. The CPU, even on the easiest difficulty, feels one-sided at times. I imagine this being a fun pick up and play with a friend, but the poor controls and bizarre aesthetic aren't making it easy for me to want to even try.
DRAGON BALL: THE BREAKERS incorporates a niche but successful formula into a similarly successful franchise, which should be a match made in heaven. However, due to graphical and technical issues paired with the unbalanced gameplay and unclear progression and menus, it results in a bit of a mess of a game. It was worth a shot, but I feel as though Dragon Ball should stick to what it knows best.
Youni is a very short and unfortunately lackluster experience. Once you've played the first few levels, you have essentially seen it all. Whilst some of the jump scares are great and some moments are very eerie, there isn't much else to keep you invested or wanting to play. The poor visuals impact the smoothness of the gameplay, causing frustration on top of the slow pacing.
Zombie Rollerz: Pinball Heroes is much more fun than I ever thought it would be; however, it doesn't do enough to hold my attention any more than a handful of battles and doesn't do enough with those battles to make me want to come back. Couple this with the random generation that only hinders your progression, and you have a frustrating game that is only working against you.
I completely understand and appreciate their intent with this game, and I'm sure there are a decent bunch who will be swept up by this and adore it. For me, once you've played it once, there is no value in ever returning.
Om Nom: Run doesn't try to be anything more than it is and does a standard job at being an endless runner. Does it do enough to stand out among free endless runner apps that you can download in seconds on your smartphone or tablet? No, it doesn't.
SHINRAI – Broken Beyond Despair has an interesting enough narrative. But poor quality visuals and lack of variety make for a hard story to become fully invested in. There seems to be too much text and waffle, and I get the feeling that quantity was preferred over quality in the story. On the whole, the game feels rushed and unpolished.
I appreciate the unique control scheme, which made Hoplegs stand out in its promotional videos and material. But overall, it was a frustrating experience, even though I progressed quicker when the controls started feeling more natural and gained more momentum. The repetitive level design, visuals and music become tedious, leaving Hoplegs (sigh) no real leg to stand on.
Rogue Lords is very pretty. They nailed the art design and character models, which I imagine will attract many people to this roguelike RPG. However, I am afraid that the attraction is surface level. With any roguelike game, you expect each run to feel different from the next and reset that excitement and engagement. Still, with Rogue Lords, once you've completed three books or so, it doesn't feel like it has any more to offer. Getting through three books is an achievement, as the gameplay and battle system is tedious, hard and repetitive. With a bit more streamlining of some mechanics and improvements in pacing, you'll have a more polished title that I'd be more comfortable recommending.
undefined.River City Saga: Three Kingdoms feels like an incredibly nostalgia-driven game, aimed specifically at those who hold classic beat-'em-ups, the River City games in particular, close to their hearts. And for that audience, I think they'll be very satisfied with what River City Saga has to offer. For people like me, who have less nostalgia for the franchise, they may struggle to understand the repetitive nature and overall appeal of River City Saga: Three Kingdoms.
What starts as a challenging and potentially exciting management sim, Idol Manager fails to keep your attention in the long term. Once you overcome those early financial hurdles and the money starts rolling in, the challenge ends, making for a stale simulated day-to-day experience.
Milky Way Prince – The Vampire Star is an artistically impressive visual novel that compliments the darker narrative and theme. A theme that is rare to come by, that many people will relate to on some level. Unfortunately, this narrative is presented with a lack of depth, and the slow pacing harms the user's overall experience. Additionally, the 'sex sense' sections could have been presented far better, and just come across a little hollow.
With the lack of true musical and aesthetic variety, and either too easy or too challenging difficulty modes, LOUD feels like how my dad describes my music taste – just noise, with no substance. At the heart of LOUD is a fun arcade-like rhythm game that falls short in comparison to many other releases of the same genre. Big props for the Soccer Mommy shoutout, though
The gameplay is faultless in what it does, but Gynoug doesn't do anything to stand out. If you are nostalgic towards the game or those alike, you'll get much more out of this than someone brand new to Gynoug. Unfortunately, I was the latter.
Despite the few technical and graphical issues, the action, controls, and epic, high-octane combos make for a truly enjoyable, yet frustrating short experience. If you are craving a solid FPS action game on your Nintendo Switch, you can't go wrong with Bright Memory: Infinite for the time being. Just make sure you're here for a good time, not a long time.
