Ghostrunner isn’t here to hold your hand. It watches you get frustrated and laughs, because it knows you’ll be back in 20 minutes.
I am thrilled! Style, speed, synthwave and a lot of substance: Ghostrunner is a spectacular action trip with irresistible flow and optimal playing rhythm. For me, it is a masterpiece that hits several nerves at once with its cold cyberpunk setting, lightning-fast katana action, precise first-person-platforming and last but not least, of course, the driving synthwave soundtrack by Daniel Deluxe.

Ghostrunner is one of the most fun games I’ve played this year. The fast and difficult one-hit-kill gameplay is constantly thrilling, whilst a surprisingly decent story and progression system help keep things interesting. Not to mention the killer soundtrack and fantastic visuals. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got my times to beat. I won’t stop playing this one for a while.
Ghostrunner's fusion of parkour and one-hit kill gameplay makes for a challenging but brilliant experience worth checking out.
Although Ghostrunner‘s story is straightforward and simplistic, the gameplay is anything but. The parkour aspect of Ghostrunner may feel familiar but the addition of the combat mechanics set this game apart from the rest. Each level brings with it new enemies and a novel configuration of obstacles that will test your skills over and over again.
Ghostrunner will carry us through to our next generation, with the implication that even the simplest gameplay loop can deliver an action packed experience. A combination of solid parkour traversing, incredible detail and design with seamless and stylish offense that is fused with an incredibly futuristic overture makes for one of the best gaming experiences, this year.
Ghostrunner is both hard and easy to love. It has a wonderful sense of style and there’s an interesting world that’s been built up here, but it definitely puts you through the wringer to get some free-flowing action and to appreciate everything that’s been cultivated. While it won’t be for everyone, there’s a fairly solid game to find under the blemishes and when you connect with it, you’re guaranteed one hell of a ride.
Ghostrunner’s trial-and-error gameplay caters to the hardcore community but leaves the rest a little frustrated. There’s a fun experience hidden deep within the game, but to get there you have to, well, get good!
Not only is Ghostrunner one of this year’s best games, but it’s also some of the most satisfying gameplay I’ve experienced in years.
If you want a surprise entry in the action genre, look no further than the fast and frenetic Ghostrunner. Granted, its difficulty curve will frustrate you not unlike a Souls-like game, but once you get to the rhythm and groove of it, you'll ace it and aim for a better run.
In a time where nearly every game demands your full attention, Ghostrunner actually deserves it.
