Dirt 5 is a solid arcade experience filled with fun moments that is unfortunately held back by it's technical issues in its current state.

If you’re already a fan of the Dirt franchise, there’s little to take issue with here – jump right in. If you’re a racing fan who’s new to the series, though, I can definitely say Dirt 5 is worth a look.

DIRT 5 refreshes the arcade rally series with a challenging and very engaging racer. An high variety of modes and tracks coupled with a dynamic weather system make it the game to play for all lovers of off-road racing.

DiRT 5 is a mixed bag at launch. With the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 just days away, it’s evident that this game was designed for the next generation

Problems aside, I would go so far as to say Dirt 5 isn’t a racing sim at all, more its own unique special blend of racer. It takes the best elements of both arcade and simulation racing, throws them into a blender and whizzes them around until they’ve become something else entirely.

Codemasters returns to the fray with the new installment of the saga, entrusting it to experts in the field and giving a great result in its return to the arcade. Technically it borders on a high level, although it is not exempt from needing certain improvements that, some are promised from the company such as adding compatibility with steering wheels, and others we can only think that they will surely be because right now they contrast in a somewhat incomprehensible way such as the absence of driver in the vehicles or interior movement of the steering wheel in the relevant camera, but none that affects the playability and great control or ability to entertain. The fact that it is one of the titles that will have a free update for XBOX Series X and PlayStation 5 is an added value for users of the Sony or Microsoft platforms.

Dirt 5 is a great arcade racer without all the depth of Dirt 4 or Dirt Rally. If you’re looking for a fast-paced racing game which you can play with friends locally, online with people, or on your own to pass the time, I guarantee you’ll love what this game has to offer. I was a little upset that there’s no detailed customisation outside of the visual aspect, but if you go into the game knowing that it’s more pick-up-and-play rather than tweaking and customising, then it shouldn’t bother you too much.

Even if you're burned out by simulations like Project CARS 3 (a pretty inferior sequel, to be frank), you should give DIRT 5 a chance if you aim for a simple arcade racing game with great-looking frills, noteworthy challenges, and a straightforward path.

DiRT 5 is a mix of arcade-style racer and racing simulation. While the driving isn’t as stiff as typical racing sims, it doesn’t require careful manipulation around corners and also while stuck in a pack of vehicles.

Dirt 5 feels like a game designed for the new generation of consoles, but there’s still plenty here for those not upgrading in the short-term. Whilst it has some technical issues and frustrating AI, the driving is as solid as ever, Playgrounds is a great new addition and there are some genuinely stunning moments to be experienced. It’s one of the best rally games in recent memory and I can’t wait to try it on a new platform.

DIRT 5 is a brilliant racer and that provides an early taste of next-gen, at least on PS4 Pro. The gameplay is great arcadey fun, and there's depth to the single-player mode that gets much deeper with the player creation kit in Playgrounds. Dirt 5 blurs the lines between current and next-gen with DIRT 5. It's ahead of the game and perhaps one of the best racers of this console generation, and if you're left playing on the older machines this side of Christmas, you shouldn't feel too hard done by - you're still getting an exceptional racer.

DiRT 5 by returning to its roots and offering a fun and arcade-y gameplay has presented us with a beautiful and valuable package that we needed so badly in the world of racing games.

It may not reinvent the (steering) wheel, but Dirt 5 dishes up traditional racing thrills with a deft sense of fun.

Dirt 5 provides a more approachable racer that acts as a decent successor to Dirt 4 and Dirt Rally while taking on the series in a few different ways. Diehard series fans might miss some of the more simulation aspects from the series, but Codemasters definitely found a healthy balance of the two offerings. Sure, you might not be blown away by the graphics, but you won’t go wrong adding this fun racer to you next-gen launch catalog.

Overall, Dirt 5 is a well-thought-out off-road package that is built upon a successful foundation. Satisfying driving, robust physics, and weather effects remain core to the experience and content is aplenty. The game’s playground mode is a wonderful addition that will help spark its players’ creative juices. While Dirt 5’s graphics and effects are impressive, it does have technical issues like pop-ins and weird audio bugs. A day-one patch and GPU driver optimization should address these issues. All in all, Dirt 5 continues the trend of Codemaster’s already impressive racing pedigree.

It’s fun, it’s fast, it’s spectacular. Do we truly need more from an arcade racer?

Although Dirt 5 is very different from previous entries in the series, it's still a great racer that embraces its arcade approach with a vibrant art style, fun game modes, and joyful gameplay.

DIRT 5 brings you a lot of fun - as a very diverse arcade racing, it's nothing of the simulation DIRT 4 partly was. DIRT 5 is a bit unfinished at times though, with a lot of tearing on Xbox One X and the career mode also seems lukewarm.

DIRT 5 might have some small issues, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t love it. I really liked its arcade-friendly approach and overall goofier vibe. It is loud, colorful, in-your-face, and accessible, without ever forgetting about its skill-focused roots, letting veterans tinker the gameplay to their liking.

Dirt 5 is genuinely a pretty game. From its incredibly smooth framerates, through to its detailed and intense 4K visuals; complemented by bright beautiful colours and a simple approach to racing and vehicles; all makes Dirt 5 truly feels like a game coming to the latest and greatest hardware. The game looks way better in person than it does on YouTube too, and plays incredibly well. In time, the game can be upgraded with a whole bunch of new customisable options, and eventually, patched to enhance performance even more. It is honestly a great and fun game that encourages quick plug-and-play gaming more so than most single players titles, and is well worth it for any fan of arcade racing or the Dirt franchise.
