Undernauts offers a nearly perfect entry point for folks looking to get into DRPGs.

While the atmosphere and Switch Boost keep things moving, the game's length may leave you feeling as trapped as the undernaut you play as.

I get asked a lot which game I recommend for people wanting to get into Wizardry-likes. And until now I didn't have a good answer; everything was a series of compromises and required me to lay out caveats or provide upfront guidance. What Experience, Inc has done with Undernauts is finally make a satisfying DRPG that looks good, plays well, and I can unequivocally say is where people new to the genre can get a taste of the richer, weirder treasures below.

Undernauts: Labyrinth of Yomi redefines the quality standard for DRPGs, especially the ones developed by Experience Inc. After learning from all the games they've developed for the last decade, there's no better starting point for players interested in the genre.

When we think about this Halloween season and all the horror games that celebrate it, we rarely think about a dungeon crawler. After all, the 'crawler doesn't feature visceral action or jump scares. It's all too turn-based for that. But, of course, horror can be much more than jump scares and visceral action, and Undernauts demonstrates that beautifully. Strong atmosphere, challenging combat and Experience Inc.'s mastery of the genre combine to create something that is nearly impossible to put down.

Undernauts: Labyrinth of Yomi is up there with Stranger of Sword City, Wizardry: Labyrinth of Lost Souls, and Demon Gaze on my short list of favourite dungeon crawlers of all time. It may be gruesome and occasionally perplexing but holy hot damn, is it rewarding.

Undernauts: Labyrinth of Yomi is exactly what you should expect from a dungeon crawler RPG. It's an experience that's the complete package, bringing soft changes to the formula while maintaining itself simple enough to be a good entry point in the genre. Nonetheless, there are other titles that are more interesting in the market and its small issues weaken the product's value overall.

Yomi, the labyrinth itself, is the star of this game. Intricately-designed, the labyrinth is a sprawling, deadly complex with plenty of mysteries propelled by an intriguing narrative that will keep players hooked.
