Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection Reviews
STAR WARS: Battlefront Classic Collection is another remastered game that’ll satisfy our nostalgic taste buds. Other than the issue mentioned earlier, which simply needs a patch, with your increased knowledge of what this bundle contains, plus the improvements, fixes, and extra trimmings, it’s fair to say that it’s a much smarter move to spend extra for a package with more enhanced and polished versions.
Would I recommend picking these titles up if you’re a recently converted Star Wars fan and you’ve never played them before? No, I don’t think I would. The inherent value of the Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection lies primarily in its nostalgia factor. For those of us who grew up playing Ewok Hunt on Endor and abusing Anakin’s Force Choke in Mos Eisley, this package will feel like home. But it’ll feel the same way home feels when you move out for the first time and come back to find that your parents are not idols but normal people, and flawed people at that. The Battlefront Classic Collection presents Star Wars Battlefront 1 and 2 in their most faithful forms and refuses to elaborate on them, down to every quirk, fault, and irritating repetitive bug. Making these games accessible on modern systems is great, sure. Making them accessible by modern standards would have been better. The Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection is a delightful and painful romp through old stomping grounds that will likely lose its short-lived luster in a matter of weeks. The good old days are not as good as they seem. It’s time to let the past die. Kill it if we have to.
STAR WARS: Battlefront Classic Collection is an echo of the past with some of the benefits of being in the modern era. IT would have been nice to have some extra content like behind-the-scenes footage or concept art as part of the larger collection, but by no means was it necessary. It would have also been nice to see some polished elements like textures or animations, but that wouldn't preserve the games as they were.
So what you have here is a friendly reminder of why Battlefront was one of the coolest gaming sub-franchises of the mid-2000s. Aspyr didn’t exactly do a lot to remaster these games in this collection, but at the very least, they didn’t compromise them. The very few additions (bigger player count, online multiplayer, and a vast improvement on the Hero Assault variety) are still very welcome.
Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection is the perfect way to relive one of the best Star Wars video game franchises. These games may be old, but that doesn’t stop new and old players alike from jumping into a galaxy far, far away for the time of their lives.
Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection is the perfect way to revisit the series on modern platforms. The addictive gunplay, diverse units, and level variety hold up to this day, and you can easily spend hundreds of hours in each entry thanks to multiple game modes, and multiplayer. The UI is a bit dated now, and the lack of crossplay support is holding the collection back, but if you're looking for some of the best Star Wars action video games have to offer, you can't go wrong with this.
STAR WARS™: Battlefront Classic Collection brings two timeless, nostalgic games to modern platforms. While some old bugs slipped through along with what seems to be new ones, the experience is authentic, runs phenomenally on modern hardware, and is just as fun as it was back in the day. STAR WARS™: Battlefront Classic Collection brings the classic Battlefront experience back for nostalgic fans or a new generation of players.
