Critic Reviews for While We Wait Here

While We Wait Here tells a very pleasant story. Despite the absence of a trial and error that I would have found very apt within the title, the parts dedicated to the preparation of dishes are also well integrated. The absolute pro goes to dubbing and atmospheres. I've always dreamed of making puncakes while the world is disintegrating out there.

While We Wait Here does not shine with advanced technology and is far from perfect. But it is definitely worth a try for fans of intriguing plots and surreal atmospheres. The mechanics of cooking and customer service immerse you in a strange, creepy and surprising story. The fates of the characters are emotional and the moral dilemmas are truly complex. Moreover, While We Wait Here is short (only 2-3 hours) but replayable. It's a great option in the 'story game for the evening' category, especially for a few pounds on Steam.

What I most enjoyed was the fact that you not only experienced the stories of Cliff and Nora, but also the other patrons. Getting to experience the protagonist’s plight but also the secondary characters reminds me of games such as Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy for the PlayStation 2. You experience everyone’s point of view, which aids you in the choices you make. Without any spoilers, the game almost feels like you play through the canon events or core memories of the patrons, which range from a variety of emotions and personal traumas, and you offer advice in the hopes that it eases them. The idea of setting this story in a diner works extremely well, as whether or not you are a stranger or a regular, something is comforting in divulging the intricacies of life to random strangers you may never meet again. The world is ending, but everyone’s problems are bigger than that and it’s all-consuming. For psychological horror gamers this is a must-buy. It’s easy to get into, and quick to complete but is also budget-friendly with a £4.49 price tag. I am happy to award While We Wait Here a Thumb Culture Platinum Award.

While We Wait Here isn't a bad game but it didn't impact me as much as I thought it would, being a story about a group of highly different characters seeking shelter in a diner during what might be the end of the world.

While We Wait Here is an interesting indie game and despite its short length, plays with some bold ideas. For its cheap price, this one is definitely worth a few hours’ playtime, but it never quite does enough with its ideas to make for a wholly satisfying experience.

While We Wait Here is a brief yet engaging adventure that delivers a well-crafted story with intriguing characters and scenarios. However, its flaws are noticeable, particularly in its rushed ending and underdeveloped choice mechanics.
