Keep Driving shows that sometimes all it takes is a good core concept and you can run with it. Driving in your car with a shifting destination in mind, picking up hitchhikers and making sure you’re keeping up with the needs of food, sleep, gas and money gives a lot of really enjoyable experiences, and it’s solidified with a fantastic vibe and soundtrack. The journey is more important than the destination, especially when the journey is this good.

Keep Driving is a heartfelt homage to the open road, capturing the freedom, challenges, and introspection that come with long-distance driving. The management and logistics aspects are such a great fit, though the shoehorned “combat” left a lot to be desired. YCJY Games has crafted an experience that resonates with the wanderlust in all of us, offering a journey that’s as much about self-discovery as it is about reaching a destination. Keep Driving is a unique and rewarding adventure that’s well worth the trip.

The strength of Keep Driving is its ability to evoke emotions and memories in the player. The game's atmosphere is imbued with a gentle melancholy and an exhilarating sense of freedom. The pixel art landscapes, random encounters and carefully chosen soundtrack contribute to a unique atmosphere that is both nostalgic and distinctly modern. Keep Driving manages to capture the very essence of travelling, with its moments of contemplative solitude and memorable encounters. The game does not try to dazzle with spectacular effects or sensational twists. On the contrary, it draws its strength from the simplicity and authenticity of its message. It is a tribute to those ordinary moments in life that, taken together, constitute an extraordinary adventure. Get ready to hit the road, meet unforgettable people and experience unique adventures. Keep Driving awaits you for a journey from which you will never want to return. So, are you ready to turn the key and step on the accelerator in this custom-built car?

With short playthroughs that clock anywhere between an hour or two, I became obsessed with obtaining all of the endings, trying different hitchhiker skills, and just enjoying the ride through pixilated backgrounds with my Swedish indie pop in the CD player. While the game’s story is minimal, it’s a point in its favour as it allows the player to create their own road trip adventure.

Keep Driving seems to me one of the most unique and original indies that have come out in recent years. It's an RPG adventure that surprises, not only because of the mechanics, but because of the random events that can happen on your journey. Play it, because it's a gem that deserves attention.

Keep Driving is an incredible road trip adventure game, truly living up to the vibe of an early 2000s drive across the country. Every aspect of the game wowed me, and I was left with no desire other than to get even more from the experience. Here’s hoping the developers launch some future DLC for the game.
