Critic Reviews for Dungeons & Dragons Neverwinter Nights 2: Enhanced Edition

Neverwinter Nights 2: Enhanced Edition is a decent port of a decent game. The branching dialogue options, deep character customization, and wealth of content to discover make this an appealing offer to CRPG fans, but the occasional glitches and overall jankiness prevent it from becoming an all-time great or an easy recommendation for anyone. If you were a big fan of this back in the day, I'd say this is certainly worth picking up just to see it a little more polished up, but if you're a newcomer, I think it might be better to wait for a modest sale before taking the plunge.

Neverwinter Nights 2 Enhanced Edition does the bare minimum as it brings the game to consoles. It looks a bit better, but that's about it. It's still buggy and rough around the edges, but it is at least Neverwinter Nights 2. If you really want to sit back and play it with a controller, this will do it for you. If you want anything more, the original is more than playable on pretty much any PC, and has deep mod support.

Neverwinter Nights 2: Enhanced Edition is a respectful and functional remaster of the RPG originally developed by Obsidian Entertainment. The visuals and overall performance have been improved, though the aesthetics remain dated. Modern accessibility options are lacking, and companion AI still shows its limitations. Nevertheless, most of the content – especially Mask of the Betrayer – shines for its narrative depth. It's a faithful remaster that aims to preserve the original's magic, and largely succeeds in doing so.

Despite some minor issues, the adventure itself, in its full package as Dungeons & Dragons Neverwinter Nights 2: Enhanced Edition, is one I’d still recommend to any DnD player.

Aside from reactivating multiplayer and adding controller support, it’s a package Aspyr has released with minimal effort. But since its core is so good, if you enjoy party-based D&D RPGs, it still manages to be worth playing. A significant part of its score comes from that strong core anyway.

On the one hand, the return of the cult game in an improved edition was pleasing, but at the same time, it showed that it can hardly compete with the latest RPGs.

Dungeons & Dragons Neverwinter Nights 2: Enhanced Edition brings a classic back for modern audiences. While it retains some of the idiosyncrasies of its time and can be a bit complex, it's still well worth a try, especially with the potential of Steam Workshop!

Despite being a title worthy of its legacy, the new version of Neverwinter Nights 2 is anything but Enhanced. Aside from graphical upscaling and the fact that it includes all expansions in a single package, the console port is unfortunately inferior compared to the original version released for PC in 2006.
