Critic Reviews for Death Relives
Death Relives is a strong idea wrapped in a conflicted execution. The mythological angle is compelling, the gameplay systems offer a clever survival loop, and the atmosphere occasionally hits unnerving highs, but the AI implementation, mechanical jank, and uneven design choices keep the game from reaching its full potential. As someone who values artistic integrity and thoughtful design, it's disheartening to see such a unique concept compromised by shortcuts that dilute rather than enhance the experience. Still, there's enough intrigue here for horror fans to chew on, especially those curious about games that experiment with form and format. Just know going in that you're not getting an Aztec horror masterpiece, but something messier, stranger, and far more divisive.
A unique "What if?" story based on Aztec mythology turns into a truly different experience when combined with a horror theme - that is, as long as the game doesn’t crash.

Rated M for Mature first-person survival horror game that stumbles on PS5
Death Relives is a game I wanted to like more than I did. Its cultural grounding is commendable, and there is a kernel of a great horror experience in its premise. But the weak voice acting, dated visuals, questionable environmental design, slow pacing, and repetitive mechanics kept me from ever feeling fully engaged.
Death Relives quickly lost the interest of this horror fan. Though it’s built upon a strong concept, the concept alone is not strong enough to carry other aspects of the game that fail to fit into its genre or generally excite. While I wouldn’t call Death Relives a winner, I eagerly look towards what comes next from this studio and to see if they learn from the mistakes of their first title.
Death Relives is the kind of game that makes you question your life choices because of the slow drain of wasted time. Its ambition is buried under poor execution, lifeless AI integration, and half-formed mechanics. Even its better ideas, like the puzzles, are let down by clunky design. There’s simply nothing here worth your time, money, or patience.
Blending Aztec mythology with modern life, this game offers a unique story and an intriguing premise. Once progression-blocking bugs are fixed, it could be a worthwhile experience for puzzle-loving players who enjoy the stealth and evasion aspects of survival games.

Death Relives is a bold but flawed attempt to blend Aztec mythology with modern horror mechanics. The environment is engaging, and the sound design delivers genuine scares. However, the inconsistent pacing, repetitive puzzles, limited enemy variety, and mediocre technical execution prevent the game from reaching its full potential. The innovative companion app and cultural elements are commendable, but their poor polishing limits the impact of the experience.
