Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection marks an unmistakable turning point for Capcom’s spin-off series, which, with this third installment, sheds its status as a minor title to establish itself as a standalone experience of the highest caliber. The cycle of exploration, gathering, and upgrading has been refined to achieve an almost flawless balance, capable of keeping players engaged for dozens and dozens of hours without ever feeling repetitive. A few narrative missteps do not prevent this title from establishing itself as one of the best turn-based RPGs of recent years and, without a doubt, as the best installment ever released in the Stories saga.

Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection is everything I’d hoped for in a follow-up to the second game, so seeing it realized so well is nothing short of fantastic. With excellent characters, a decent story, an enjoyable gameplay loop with as much grinding as you want there to be, and a really gorgeous appearance and world, it’s a genuine must play for fans of turn-based RPGs.

In total, it took me almost 66 hours to get through the credits once. It could certainly be done a bit faster, since I occasionally let myself get sidetracked by fighting monsters I wasn't quite ready for yet, or by grinding levels. Most of the time, though, when I reached a new area, I ignored the story quest marker for the time being and explored the new area.

Monster Hunter Stories 3 delivers an exceptional RPG experience that combines a deep story with a stunning anime-inspired art direction, highlighting the beauty of its monsters and environments. Its gameplay is built around enjoyable tactical combat, searching for monsters and rare eggs, and crafting powerful gear from materials discovered throughout the world. Therefore, fans of the series should absolutely play it and not miss this complete experience, especially with the game’s great Arabic localization.

Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection, with its original mechanics of breeding, combat, and exploration, makes it one of the most complete JRPGs. It’s a shame that technical issues on PC prevent it from reaching perfection.

Monster Hunter Stories 3 represents a significant evolution for the spin-off series, as Capcom has successfully integrated an epic narrative with a deep strategic combat system that transcends basic mechanics. The game offers expansive content that satisfies long-time enthusiasts with the inclusion of monsters such as Lagiacrus and Archfield, while simultaneously attracting newcomers with its enchanting visual style and the innovative 'Habitat Restoration' system, which adds value to every creature collected. It is a comprehensive role-playing experience that masterfully balances strategic planning with the joy of exploration. In short, for fans of the franchise or those interested in it, the game provides a unique character that stands apart from the traditional formula we have come to know and cherish.

Ultimately, Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection marks a significant evolution for the series, which has grown in maturity and depth, though at the cost of being slightly less accessible than before. Driven by a more engaging narrative, a rich gameplay system, and particularly polished art direction, the game manages to stand out as much more than just a simple spin-off. This increase in complexity, combined with some occasionally abrupt spikes in difficulty, may, however, surprise—or even discourage—players less familiar with its mechanics. Despite this, the game remains solid and highly satisfying over the long haul. For me, it is undoubtedly the most accomplished entry in the franchise to date.

As a newcomer to the Monster Hunter Stories series I was absolutely delighted to have enjoyed my time as much as I did. Comparing this to Pokémon isn’t even right. This is what I’ve always wanted Pokémon to be, a deeper RPG with an important story that was a bit more mature in theme. I absolutely loved my time with Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection and there is even more I can go back and do with the ecosystem gameplay. I’m happy I finally decided to give this a chance, because in some way I almost prefer this over the regular Monster Hunter series.

Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection represents the culmination of a remarkable journey that few would have predicted when it began nearly a decade ago. Capcom has pulled off yet another feat in a gaming generation worth celebrating, elevating a spin-off series born from a successful IP to the very pinnacle of excellence. A sumptuous JRPG, as mature in its storytelling as it is layered and satisfying in its gameplay, it’s already a contender for one of the best games of 2026. We don’t know what the future holds for this series, but one thing is certain: missing out on this adventure would be a mistake as big as a Rathalos.

Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection is a good game that I’m ultimately left conflicted on. While it’s the biggest, most polished, and most mechanically thoughtful a Stories title has ever been, it’s also at the cost of what I feel was the series’ unique personality. While the series has been aging with its audience ever since the previous game, Stories 2 struck a much more resonant emotional balance, embracing something more somber and thoughtful while still respecting the oftentimes silly and satirical nature of the original Stories game. Stories 3, in its push to appear as more grown up, abandons a lot of that in favor of an okay but more generic narrative that doesn’t manage to leverage what makes the Monster Hunter series tonally unique. On the gameplay side of things, Stories 3 is broadly a success. Changes to combat keep its simplicity, while the more punishing boss battles still push it towards being something where you really have to think more than before. It’s also perhaps the most beautiful Monster Hunter game ever made, with tasteful watercolor visuals applied to superb modeling and animations. There is plenty of good here, despite my prior complaints. That said, Stories 3 only feels like half a victory, where it has its own accomplishments but feels dragged down by some of the same things currently plaguing the mainline games. It doesn’t feel finished, performance is wonky, and despite the want for a more involved narrative, in the end it misplaces what made Monster Hunter really work in the first place.

MHS3 is a great game for anyone who wants a slightly chill version of Monster Hunter after the nice teleporting Rathalos. Sure it’s a single player experience, but know that it’s a cozy more laid back version of Monster Hunter. I honestly felt like I was doing the world a favor with not only bringing back extinct creatures. But assisting with creating new combos or creatures with some pretty useful skills. It helped a lot with certain invasive monsties which get more difficult with each species. I give Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection the Thumb Culture Platinum Award

Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection delivers the most refined gameplay in the series with a challenging combat system, rewarding exploration, and deep customization that rewards experimentation. However, its underwhelming narrative pacing and forgettable supporting cast prevent the story from matching the strength of its mechanics. For players willing to invest time into learning its layered systems, it stands as the most mechanically rewarding entry yet, even if its storytelling struggles to leave a lasting impact.

Capcom, as it turns out, hasn’t lost its knack for making great RPGs featuring dragons and/or dragon-like creatures. If you liked the previous games in the series, this is an easy recommendation. Those new to the franchise just looking for their next RPG fix might as well jump in here, as you don’t really need any prior experience to have a good time with this.

Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection is the pinnacle of a good story within a ‘catch monster’ game that explains and gives meaning to the ‘breed’ mechanics and truly makes the whole world come alive. Fun, well localized, providing many hours of gameplay with a lot of agility and possibilities, it is undoubtedly the best game of the genre so far! If you don’t know the others, you can start with this one; if you already know them, don’t let this one pass!

I’d say that Monster Hunter Stories 3 Twisted Reflection perfectly captures the magic of blending two beloved concepts into one cohesive whole. It delivers the thrill of Monster Hunter’s iconic creatures alongside the charm and strategic depth of a monster-collecting RPG. Thanks to this you get a game that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly new. For me personally, this is easily the best entry in the Stories series to date and It’s the kind of game that reminds me why I fell in love with Monster Hunter in the first place.
