The combat does feel a little stiff, while the magic and jewel system is unnecessarily complicated. But even so, if you're looking for an action RPG that scratches that retro itch, Shrine's Legacy is definitely one worth diving into.
Shrine's Legacy pulls you back to the 16-bit era of gaming. With a strong story, great visuals, and fantastic music, this is a game you should try, whether solo or with a friend.
Shrine’s Legacy is the kind of game that reminds me why I fell in love with gaming in the first place. It’s approachable, nostalgic, and just plain fun. Whether you’re chasing that retro feeling or introducing a friend to the magic of 16-bit adventures, this is one quest well worth taking.
Shrine's Legacy wears its nostalgic roots on its sleeves, with charming characters, cool-looking environments, head-bopping music, and an incredible villain. But the spikes in difficulty with a lot of bosses, coupled with the stiff and slow gameplay approach, dampened my otherwise great experience. While it is an inexpensive game to purchase, if you are planning to play solo, it may not be worth picking up due to its numerous flaws. If you do have a coop partner, however, the legacy this game leaves behind will be a much sweeter memory to you than how bitter it was for me.
