Critic Reviews for Sol Cesto

Sol Cesto is a roguelike that turns probability into pure gameplay: you choose a row, but the outcome is random, with percentages shifting every turn. What starts as a simple system gradually deepens through modifiers, abilities, and items that let you bend the odds in your favor, resulting in surprising strategic depth. Its main drawback is a slow progression and a heavy reliance on randomness, which can make runs frustrating even with strong builds. Still, it stands out as an original and clever experience within the dungeon crawler landscape.

Sol Cesto isn’t a game that holds your hand, and it’s not one that immediately shows its best side. The opening hours can feel unforgiving, and I wouldn’t blame anyone for bouncing off it early. But for players willing to stick with it, there’s something very special here. Impressive, still: the game is still only in Early Access. It offers a fresh take on the roguelite formula by stripping controls down to their simplest form and focusing entirely on choice, probability, and consequence. You don’t need fast reactions or complex strategies. You just need the courage to make a decision and accept what follows. This is exactly the kind of experimentation I love seeing from indie developers. Sol Cesto may not be welcoming at first (or ever, depending on how you view it), but once it gets under your skin, it’s very hard to forget.

Sol Cesto presents a creative concept, with a probability-based system that generates tense decisions and interesting moments. Its dark atmosphere, striking visuals, and distinctive mechanics help build a unique identity, even if the execution doesn’t fully explore the potential of these ideas. In the end, the experience is more likely to appeal to those who enjoy taking risks and don’t mind repetition or the strong influence of chance. On the other hand, those looking for something more elaborate, with greater strategic control and consistent variety, may find reasons to be disappointed.

Sol Cesto is an addictive, strategic, and highly original game where every decision matters, even though chance always has the final say. Its grotesque aesthetic gives it a ton of personality, and the progression between runs works really well, but it would be a good idea to add the ability to save midway through attempts.

EntreMandos

Sol Cesto isn’t a game for everyone, because it’s very different from what players are used to. The lack of control over every move, and the absence of clear progress with visible improvements, is what makes it stand out within its genre. It offers an experience that forces you to make decisions that do not depend solely on your hand, as chance rules the dungeon. You simply choose how much you are willing to risk, knowing that the outcome will not always be what you want.
