Critic Reviews for Subliminal

Subliminal isn’t perfect, but it knows how to get under your skin. Some rough edges and unforgiving segments prevent it from being flawless, yet the story, atmosphere, and psychological tension pull you in and keep you thinking even after completing an ending. While it may not appeal to everyone, for those willing to dive into its eerie corridors and confront Caleb’s fracturing mind, it delivers a sharp, immediate sense of horror that keeps your heart racing while you’re playing.

This has been an overly negative review, and I recognise that this game has a lot to improve on, however, I genuinely think that there's something here that could be unique and fun, as long as Accidental Studios are able to lean into what makes Subliminal unique.

Though it could use more guidance overall and its inclusion of a mascot-like monster feels out of place, Subliminal is an overall good horror title, with clever puzzles, a fun theme and setting, and an interesting inferred story. I look forward to seeing what comes in chapter two, with hopes that further context improves upon some issues in the first chapter.

Subliminal: Episode I is a fun, yet short, little experience. While it isn't perfect, the unique setting ripped directly from our childhoods is an instant blast of nostalgia, and the story is interesting enough to see through to its conclusion. Unfortunately, there are very few answers here, but this is only the beginning, and I personally look forward to seeing what is to come.
