The Day I Became a Bird, from developer Hyper Luminal Games Ltd., is a fun, adorable visual novel adventure that features a fair amount of well-placed gameplay and a good dose of creative and nostalgic flavor to it. It’s a short journey, though, clocking in at 1.5 hours.
The Day I Became a Bird is short, simple, and centered on a very specific feeling. If you're looking for something relaxed and inviting, it delivers on that without hesitation. The story is sweet, the presentation is thoughtful, and the overall experience feels genuine. It may not offer much reason to come back beyond collecting everything, but what's here leaves a soft impression. It's the kind of game that might remind you of what it felt like to be young, to care deeply about something small, and to believe that even the simplest idea could take flight.

The Day I Became a Bird is charming in all the right ways. The artwork is gorgeous, the story is relatable and well told, and the gameplay is, while perhaps a bit repetitive, largely fine. Some of the controls could use some work, and really remain the most difficult part to praise. However, with the ability to simplify them very easily in the menu, the overall package is an easy one to recommend.
I would definitely recommend The Day I Became a Bird to families. It’s a simple, sweet, and pretty experience that I’m glad I played. It’s not the most deep or interesting game in the world, but it’s a great breather between some of the heavy gameplay and storytelling we see on consoles and PC nowadays.
With a beautiful art style, simple puzzle-solving, and an emotional story, The Day I Became a Bird is a bite-sized story with a big heart, and everyone who loves playing cozy games or games with emotional narratives should definitely give it a chance.
The Day I Became A Bird had me stuck as a sniffling, happy mess by the time I reached its end. It isn’t trying to be more complicated than its source material, but instead allows that tale of young love to flourish and fly just like its protagonists.
While only lasting perhaps an hour, this tale of young love has enough charm and small diversions to make you smile
