Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 is a massive letdown of a sequel. At times it teeters on the so-bad-it's-good territory, with references for fans of the series and some admittedly decent customisation. But it does little to amplify what's at its core: a half-arsed co-op tie-in that, bafflingly, lacks any of the charm that the first game had.

A lack of mission variety, and an array of bugs of the technical variety bring down the experience, but Coldiron have largely improved upon their first outing in the Alien universe, thanks to a fun class system, satisfying gunplay, and challenge cards that make for interesting difficulty experimentation, while remaining mostly faithful to the overarching franchise.

Just like the first game, Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 is fun with friends, and for short play sessions of a few missions and moving the campaign forward. If there’s a third game in the works, it really needs to change up the formula.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2's narrative starts with a rescue mission that quickly gets messy as it becomes evident that Weyland-Yutani is up to its old tricks, experimenting on Xenomorphs.
