Critic Reviews for Ghost of Yotei Complete Edition

Ghost of Yōtei is that rare sequel that not only maintains the essence of its highly successful predecessor, but also qualitatively leapfrogs it in just about every meaningful way and metric. Underscored by a grippingly furious tale of revenge inspired by a layer cake of classic Japanese samurai cinema, the best combat ever seen in a samurai title and the most compelling open world since Red Dead Redemption 2, Ghost Of Yōtei is a jaw-dropping demonstration of Sucker Punch Productions operating at the peak of its considerable powers. Ghost of Yōtei redefines the term 'must-have' and wholly validates PlayStation Studios broader approach to embracing single-player epics such as this. Though both Most Wanted and Echoes of Sekigahara are superb additions to the base game, it's really Echoes of Sekigahara that stands out, offering a full-blooded continuation of 2025's best game and providing a timely reminder to us all that no other studio can do open-world samurai action quite like Sucker Punch. Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition is simply essential.

That’s ultimately what the Complete Edition amounts to: a compact story expansion with one questionable narrative decision, an excellent new single-player mode that’s as satisfying as it is brutal, and a relaxing bonus for anyone who enjoys taking in Ghost of Yōtei’s gorgeous scenery.

Echoes of Sekigahara isn't the barnstorming, endgame expansion that you may be expecting - but it is another emotionally-charged and enjoyable chapter in Atsu's story. But what really sells this re-release is Most Wanted; the new combat-focused roguelike mode is an absolute treat for anyone who likes to cross swords in Sucker Punch's samurai epic.Ghost of Yotei: Complete Edition earns an easy recommendation if you're yet to dip into the base game, but even if you're coming back for more, there's enough reason here to rejoin Atsu on her blood-soaked journey.

In essence, the additions of the Ghost of Yotei Complete Edition serve as a fine anniversary gift for Sucker Punch's latest feudal Japan title. The Echoes of Sekigahara expansion naturally complements the main game's formula, albeit perhaps a bit too safely and without major surprises, aside from a narrative that remains thankfully as compelling as ever. As for the Most Wanted mode, it is sure to keep fans occupied for hours, even if the paid access could have been avoided, especially considering how other PlayStation exclusives have handled such bonus modes in the past.

Ghost of Yotei Complete Edition isn't a must-buy for anyone who's already mastered Atsu's adventure. However, new players and those looking for an excuse to return to the foot of Mount Yotei will certainly appreciate both the story expansion and the Most Wanted mode.

Taking into perspective the complete package of Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted, Sucker Punch have delivered some of its most distilled, compelling, and well-executed content yet.

Ghost of Yotei: The Complete Edition is worth your time and attention. Its expansion, Echoes of Sekigahara, adds a strong narrative to the overall body of work, while Most Wanted mode will remind players how much fun the gameplay can be. Combined with additional goodies and a great base game, it is truly a ‘complete’ edition of Atsu’s story.

While it doesn't feel as impactful as Ghost of Tsushima's Director's Cut, Ghost of Yotei: Complete Edition is a definitive repackaging of Atsu's vengeful tale. Echoes of Sekigahara's place against the broader story can make for some awkward delivery, but the Ashoro Foothills and Most Wanted mode end up balancing it all out.
