Allogloom is a beautiful dark fairy tale that feels like a story straight out of Tim Burton’s imagination. It also features a cast of memorable characters who make the overall gaming experience even more powerful and immersive.

Fans of Strange Antiquities and puzzle adventures should definitely give Allogloom a whirl. It’s gorgeous, delightfully weird and just the right amount of creepy, making it a lovely little addition to your Halloween gaming list.

For those who want a neatly packaged, slightly eerie, yet beautiful escape to another world, Allogloom is amazing. If anything, I wish I could’ve had just a little bit more about the spaces we visit to see what was happening in each area. Again, this isn’t anything that’s a true negative, but I did end up with just a few questions on some of the areas we find ourselves. I want to learn more about the settings that have been created for Nora. The areas she finds herself in all seem to have their own reasons for being and I’d want just a little more to understand why. But even without this, Allogloom is a game worth your time if you want a bit of horror with your point and click games.

Galactic Ghosty’s debut is a truly needed addition after Fran Bow, and it can even be seen as its spiritual successor. It won’t become an instant classic at a glance, but if the developer learns from its mistakes, their next game could easily become one.

Allogloom is a game that I think will be listed among some of the greats of that genre; it was an absolute joy to play from start to finish, and I would highly recommend it not only to fans of the genre but also for those looking for a story that will keep them enthralled throughout.

Allogloom shines when it lets you wander through a fully imagined world. The art, writing, and audio all push the same mood, and the puzzles teach you something about the town and its people as you solve them. You won't run into any technical trouble in Allogloom, so nothing pulls you out of the story.

So, to conclude! What surprised me most about Allogloom is how much it reminded me of the point-and-click games I played when I was younger, without ever feeling childish. A straight line runs from the curiosity that made me click everything in Putt-Putt, Pajama Sam, or Freddi Fish to the curiosity that kept pulling me deeper into Gruesome Grove and the world around it. The difference is what waits on the other side of the click. Those childhood games rewarded curiosity with jokes, animations, and friendly characters; Allogloom sometimes rewards it with something you probably wish you didn’t know, and I mean that as a compliment. Perhaps that’s why the comparison to those childhood adventures feels so correct. Allogloom feels like the genre grew up alongside the people who played them. The curiosity is still there, as are the strange characters and the inventory full of seemingly useless nonsense, but the questions are different now, and the answers can be considerably more uncomfortable. It reminded me why I used to click on absolutely everything in Putt-Putt, Pajama Sam, and Freddi Fish, without ever wanting to replay any of those games. We’re older now, and the moths grew up with us. Allogloom is definitely one of those point-and-click games I’ll recommend for years to come.
