Critic Reviews for Candleman
This is a genuinely enjoyable platformer with a wonderfully mysterious atmosphere.
A platformer that makes great use of shadows and light. You'll get emotionally attached to the candle as he burns through some lovely environments and tough platforming, but the ending is a bit of a damp squib.
It’s not the fact that you’re controlling a perambulatory candle that’s the oddest thing about this game, but that its story is so oddly affecting despite its absurdity.
That's the unpredictable allure to Candleman. Its obvious hook is in its unique mechanic, but that's not enough to carry it to the conclusion. Then, there's a Rudy-like emotional investment that takes over when everything stops revolving around gameplay. Fittingly, Candleman burns out prematurely. But, that doesn't mean that it stops shining.
Candleman is a great platformer with beautifully rendered graphics and wonderful attention to detail. You will find yourself cheering on the little candle as you help him navigate the many obstacles in his way as he tries to reach the magnificent beacon shining from the lighthouse. The gameplay is simple yet challenging, nicely varied, and requires a studied balance of using light, shadow, and movement.
This adorable atmospheric puzzle platformer is a gentle title that's full of charm
Candleman, is a small and exclusive Indie for the Microsoft console as a result of the work of the program ID@Xbox, which despite being short and halfway to its possibilities, will undoubtedly delight platform genre's lovers.
