Even though there are no frills, Putty Pals is an entertaining and well thought out puzzle platformer that is a perfect fit for the Nintendo Switch.
If you're wanting to play with someone less experienced things can still work out but you'll both have to be patient as they come up to speed and work out their coordination. Solo play is possible but once you get in several levels it becomes quite aggravating trying to coordinate your various button-presses for both characters by yourself. While it isn't perfect, Putty Pals is an excellent cooperative-play-focused platformer, and that's not something you'll likely see often.
Although it isn't perfect, Putty Pals is a fantastic game to experience with a friend.
Don't be swayed by its colourful appearance, Putty Pals has been put on this earth to hurt you. The FingerGuns Review;
In the end Putty Pals is a refreshingly-clever platforming game that is best played with a friend. Ideally you’ll both have at least some moderate gaming chops, and if you do there’s a wonderful variety of content within that you’ll be able to overcome and enjoy together. One of the delights about the Nintendo Switch is being able to see opportunities for independent developers to take a small aspect of the technology and Harmonious Games have really taken the Switch’s objectives to heart – bringing some people together to just play a game and have a good time. Putty Pals is, simply put, syrupy goodness from a local Australian publisher who is obviously doing additional research into the impact of too much saccharine on the general populace.
Don’t let the bright kid-friendly colours or the cute Worms-sounding voices or the name fool you here. Putty Pals is challenging little platformer that uses its charm to draw you in and its gentle difficulty curve to keep you invested. It would be nice to have more variety throughout the levels, but it’s a fun, gentle puzzler with a steady challenge throughout.
I really enjoyed playing Putty Pals, it was an absolutely adorable time to play with another person.
Putty Pals never falters as a cooperative experience, and, while there is the chance to struggle as a lone player, it is undeniable proof that games are often at their best when enjoyed with others. This squishy cooperative puzzle platformer may see you bouncing toward Puttopia, but it is clear to see that its real home is on Nintendo Switch – embodying everything that the plucky portable home console is all about.
