Critic Reviews for Cold Iron

Cold Iron is a game that requires players to think and act fast. While it is brief, and some might consider it too difficult, the game never feels unfair. The solutions to its unique puzzles are right in front of you, and your own wits and skill are the only things that stands between you and sweet, sweet victory. If you have had a hankering for a new gaming experience and don't mind getting your hide tanned a little bit, Cold Iron may just be your huckleberry.

There are no difficulty options, so you won't be able to tone down the enemy AI if you get stuck.

Cold Iron is a fascinating and unique game that could use a little bit more polish. I'd love to see additional puzzles and worlds added in the future, and maybe some kind of tutorial or power-up that could assist with better aiming for those elusive bullseyes. The test of skill is reason enough to play again and again, with the challenge of a reflex puzzle-based shooter persistently pressing for just one more duel to try and do slightly better than I did before. Textures and difficulty aiming aside, I always wanted to hear that bell one more time and watch my enemy slump into the dirt. Or maybe? Maybe it's just the curse of the gun that won't let go—the grip of Cold Iron on my soul.

Cold Iron is an original (and bizzare) spin on duels from western movies, but the content does not justify the pricing.

Sometimes it's the simpler experiences that really draw you in, especially when playing in VR; that's not to say that I don't wish Cold Iron was a little longer and had a bit more meat on the bone, but for a compact budget experience it's well worth taking a look.

Cold Iron's central mechanic isn't strong enough to carry a game. Combine this with a boring story, poorly made checkpoints, and an art style that has all the consistency of a Unity asset flip, and all you're left with is dish that would have been better served hot.

Cold Iron is a short but sweet PSVR title. It combines VR with a stand-off shooting mechanic and puzzles in a way which has you yearning for more as the game comes to its climax at around 90 minutes. The challenges, secrets and temptation of a new bonus duel keep the game fresh and offers plenty of replayability – especially seeing as the outcome of the puzzles is different each time even though the solution is the same.
