Koihime Enbu RyoRaiRai is a pretty good fighting game, despites its old and questionable design.

Koihime Enbu RyoRaiRai is a fighting game with simple mechanics. It has a basic system with interesting animations. The modes are what we should expect: Arcade with some Visual Novel in it, Training, local and online Versus. A tutorial is missing, though. The biggest problem, however, is to be an extreme niche title. This means that the online mode will always be practically empty, something problematic for the lifespan of a fighting game.

When it comes to 2D fighters, Koihime Enbu Ryo Rai Rai is certainly a competent one that rivals some of the more well-known entries in the genre.

So, should you buy Koihime Enbu RyoRaiRai? For such a low price, this is a surprisingly solid fighting game with a lot of depth to the gameplay mechanics.

Should you invest in Koihime Enbu Ryo Rai Rai? Well, it's a difficult one. If you are the kind of fighting game player that puts more stock in new mechanics than flashy animations - and perhaps really likes anime girls - then Koihime Enbu Ryo Rai Rai is a great package at a decent price on both PSN and Steam. If you're newer to fighting games though, or a more casual player, there's no way I would suggest this game. Not that it's complicated, just neither the most endearing nor visually enticing fighter out there.

Koihime Enbu RyoRaiRai is a solid fighting game that feels satisfying to play, while being accompanied by a great soundtrack and pleasing graphics. It may not have many modes, but what's on offer is enjoyable enough to be worth recommending to fighter fans, even to those who aren't necessarily experts. The removal of Scenario Mode is unfortunate, but the rest of the new features still make it superior compared to Koihime Enbu.

Koihime Enbu RyoRaiRa is a solid fighter all things considered, but still a bit lacking in some departments. The art style and design of characters are a bit generic and uninspired. The stages feel just a bit empty. And the lack of modes is disappointing. Regardless of faults, the gameplay is fun and responsive. Fatal Counters add some zest to how the game plays. Characters bring their own spice and flavoring to the table. Plus, the music is nice and sets the tone for exciting matches.

At is cheap price point, with lenient difficulty, solid teaching tools, and accessible mechanics, I think Koihime Enbu RyoRaiRai could be a great way for people who slip into the anime fan/fighting game novice venn diagram to get their feet wet in the genre without having to dive in too deep. As most of the game is about landing single, solid hits (although there are some linkable moves), players can focus on learning the basics, then on learning the very user-friendly Hougeki system to get a feel for things like juggling and wall-bouncing. From there, they can graduate to things like more complicated super motions, cancelling, and all the extra fun stuff that seasoned fighters get into, and Koihime Enbu RyoRaiRai also supports to a degree. Koihime Enbu RyoRaiRai is not a game that will be challenging Dragon Ball FighterZ or Street Fighter V for top spots at EVO any time soon, but it is a smaller, simpler, and cheaper title that fighting game upstarts and fans can use to effectively spread the good word of the quarter-circle.

The game really does offer something different compared to other fighting games and I think a lot of people will enjoy it once they've had a try. And with a super low price tag for entry, there really isn't a better time to hop on and have a go.

Koihime Enbu RyoRaiRai is going to be one very niche fighting game on the PlayStation 4. Very few people in the west will care about the extended franchise that it comes from, being adult visual novels, and those that are fans enough of Koihime Musou have been able to buy the previous version of Koihimi Enbu on PC. I hope some people discover it though, because there really is a good little fighting game in there.
