Dead Rising 3 is a schizophrenic game. The story is absolutely mess and the difficulty has a tendency to spike every now and then, yet the gameplay is beyond enjoyable and it's a blast to explore the game's sandbox.

Altogether Dead Rising 3 could be the best one [in the series] yet. If you have an Xbox One then get this game if you haven't already.

Dead Rising 3 is an impressive improvement on the series, especially for those who hated the time pressure in the first two episodes. Nightmare mode, however, is a huge tribute to the original gameplay. Multiplayer is a lot of fun. Only the graphics are not "next-gen ready".

Perhaps the biggest issue with Dead Rising 3 is that there's not much to it. Those who want to simply roam and cause wanton destruction will find their needs tremendously appeased, but anyone hoping to see a game truly trying something new will want to look elsewhere.

In the real world, we consume a lot of media products that have to do with zombies, apocalypses and other virus outbreaks. You'd think Dead Rising 3 is an overload of this, but nothing could be further from the truth. Developer Capcom Vancouver has put in such a variety of zombies, fat weapons, and weird humor that Dead Rising 3 stays fresh. And that's quite an achievement, given all the blood and rancidity that shuffles past you.

Dead Rising 3 is the essential Xbox One launch title: a rampant, ridiculous and riotous sandbox that delivers countless hours of unapologetic unrestrained fun. Rather than a pristine graphical showcase, it's a bountiful content-rich slaughter smorgasbord that encourages us to get our hands dirty in obscenely silly ways.

Dead Rising 3 is not a game that takes itself too seriously and it is all about having a great time; and a great time you will have.  Out of all the launch games that I have been playing I have the most difficulty putting this one down and there is something to be said about that.

From a technical standpoint, Dead Rising 3 is not the pinnacle of how a next-gen game should look (or perform), but from an expanded gameplay perspective, and one of pure fun, it's my favourite launch title among the lot. Hopefully we see a patch or two over the coming weeks to attempt to fix some of the mechanical problems with the game.

Overall, Dead Rising 3 is a lot of fun, with a 13-16 hour campaign enhanced by replayability due to the sheer amount of ways you can approach your time in Los Perdidos. From the very outset there are different play-styles offered up, including co-op if you fancy it: Capcom Vancouver want this to be your experience, and while it does stutter from time to time, this is a game well worth playing, so long as you can stomach the B-movie acting and gore.

When it comes down to it, 'Dead Rising 3' is less difficult than the original two games, but significantly more entertaining. While it takes a while for the story to get moving due to the blandness of the main character, the twists and turns that await players in the third act of the game are extremely gratifying for any fans of the other 'Dead Rising' titles. Similar to the first two games, there are multiple endings as well, although the S rating (best ending) is much easier to achieve compared to previous games. If you are a fan of the zombie genre and picked up an Xbox One recently, don't hesitate to buy 'Dead Rising 3' as it should provide many hours of pure zombie entertainment.

This darker romp through a zombie outbreak is one that I will be replaying as soon as time permits, and hopefully with a friend. While Dead Rising 3 doesn't showcase the next gen visuals like that of Forza Motorsport 5 or the far more realistic presentation of Ryse: Son of Rome, it gives us more and pushes us further in an otherwise samey sandbox genre. Entertainingly enough, the game also remembers where you've ditched every item, vehicle, or parts forever – something no sandbox game can boast. Given its tight release schedule, it is one of the must-have launch titles of the new generation. The online co-op mayhem is a blast, and I heartily recommend this to any new Xbox One owner looking for an M-rated way to kill time (and reams of the undead).

Just like it did on Xbox 360, Dead Rising 3 stands out as one of the first memorable titles on a new Xbox console.

Dead Rising 3 was one of the Xbox One's most anticipated launch titles, but will it 'Rise' to the challenge or should the series have remained 'Dead' and buried?

Dead Rising 3 not only shows off the Xbox One's power, but also happens to be a solid zombie survival game to boot. With it's vast open-world, seemingly endless weapon combo system and New Game+, there's virtually no end to the fun you'll have trying to survive in a world overrun with the undead.

Dead Rising 3 provides plenty of zombie killing fun and is a great game to pick up if you bought an Xbox One. Newcomers to the series will find an incredibly fun game with tons of replay value and co-op fun. Returning fans will find the same thing but may be turned off a bit due to the fact that the core game hasn't really changed all that much.  My opinion as a huge fan of the Dead Rising games? Don't fix what isn't broken.

Updated graphics, more accessible gameplay, tonnes of customisable weapons and vehicles, and all the zombies you could ever want filling your screen. Dead Rising 3 is over the top, bloodthirsty fun at its finest, albeit with some minor glitches and a lack of innovation that prevents it from being perfect.

It doesn't do anything new and it doesn't feel next-gen but Dead Rising 3 is a solid and welcome return to gleeful, quirky zombie killing. Like the rotting corpses that populate its streets, Dead Rising 3 has a long life after it's finished. The game is one to which, amidst a barren forthcoming release schedule, you'll keep revisiting.
