AO Tennis 2 is definitely a step up from the first game, but there’s still a lot that can be done to make the series a must-have for tennis fans, let alone sports fans.

AO Tennis 2 is one of those games that is neither good enough to deserve an applause nor bad enough to deserve harsh criticism. It's a tennis simulation with good gameplay, deep career mode, solid editor mode, weak animations, and not so good visuals, and some famous tennis players are not licensed as well. So in the end, it's hard to either recommend or not recommend it, as it really comes down to personal preferences rather the quality of the game.

AO Tennis 2 can often feel like reaching Top Spin 4 levels of quality, but it still lacks on one of the most important ones: gameplay. Imprecise controls and an awful AI makes this game really hard to recommend.

Truth be told, AO Tennis 2 is not the best tennis game that I have ever played. It is, however, a solid attempt at a simulation-style sports game.

A burnt child dreads the fire, as they say. The developers of AO Tennis risked and it paid off. AO Tennis 2 isn't a bad game and the bet on community content seems like the right one for a less expensive game. When you get over the initial feelings and the controls get under your skin, you'll get to enjoy AO Tennis 2.

There’s a genuinely brilliant game hidden away somewhere in AO Tennis 2, but you need to have the patience of a saint to put up with its horrendous frame rate issues and the impact they have on its already tricky stroke timing system.

AO Tennis 2 presents itself as a realistic tennis simulation and on the Nintendo Switch, that's enough to stand out and set a high threshold. Unfortunately the overall experience turns out to be a disappointment. Despite a well-executed career mode and a helpful player creation tool, the gameplay in AO Tennis 2 feels disproportionately difficult, while its cast of players doesn't make much sense. Adding to that, its visual environment belongs to a previous time and its performance issues harm the experience even more. Players looking for a sharp and exquisite tennis simulation on the Switch will walk out disappointed.

AO Tennis 2 is a deep and rewarding simulation that offers much for the hardcore tennis fans. An initial difficulty wall will likely put a few players off, but for those that persist, there is a rewarding and deep game of tennis to be found.

In my experience, AO Tennis 2 doesn’t do justice to tennis either, even though I wouldn’t exactly give tennis itself a glowing review.

The most recent patch has to a small degree helped correct some of the issues in regards to errors and animations. Let's hope the developers continue to support the game and make it stronger as time goes on. I think it's fair to think they will considering how much post-release effort went into the original AO Tennis.
