Critic Reviews for Far Cry 4: Valley of the Yetis

I love the new snowy setting, and there are some fun moments here, but ultimately Valley of the Yetis plays it too safe.

FC4's Valley of the Yeti DLC adds some monstrous fun and desperate defense missions.

Fantasy enemies clearly work very well with Far Cry, but this abridged version of the main game really should be having more fun with its characters than this.

It's an easy recommendation for anyone looking to fight yetis and engage in some light tower defense

The best thing Valley of the Yetis has going for it is the inherent fun that comes from using Far Cry 4's skills, weapons, and vehicles. Everything else feels wasted. The station defense battles are spectacles, but not that challenging. The Yetis are intimidating, but don't stay scary for long. With no legitimate lead into or out of the story, it's hard to take any of it seriously. It's definitely the biggest chunk of extra content to come out of the game, but not the best.

Many great games struggle to release solid DLC, but Far Cry 4 has avoided that issue very well. Valley of the Yetis has a few issues, the major one being the stripping of all your hard work in the main game, but it is still a ton of fun. The tower defense-esque elements added are integrated well and do a great job of pushing forward more Far Cry 4 combat, easily one of the best parts of the game. While there are some slight rough edges that could have been sanded down, Valley of the Yetis provides a great reason to hop back into Far Cry 4.

Valley of the Yetis feels like a medley of Far Cry 4's greatest hits, and while none of the missions stray particularly far from the established formula, you'll still have fun scavenging for weapons and building your defences, which at least makes up for the disappointing Yetis.

Although it features a greater emphasis on defense than we had originally expected, Far Cry 4's Valley of the Yetis DLC ended up being almost exactly what we'd hoped for. It's fun, complementary and affordable, presenting lengthy and memorable gameplay. Not only that, but it's a great excuse to return to last year's best video game.
