When Doom: The Dark Ages launched last week across Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC, one thing that became immediately clear was the low number of concurrents on Steam. As TheGamer's Sam Woods reported at the time, The Dark Ages peaked at about 30,812 players on launch day, which is a far cry from the 104,891 players that populated Doom Eternal back in 2020.
Eternal's mixture of speed, violence, and difficulty has aged like a fine, bloody wine.
In the time since then, the game has only managed to top 31,470 concurrents, a 658-player increase, according to SteamDB. It turns out, the game isn't just struggling on PC, as things on the PlayStation side aren't looking too hot either, according to multiple analysts.
To start, the official Bethesda social media account shared that The Dark Ages topped 3,000,000 players, though it's worth noting that the figure doesn't mean that many sales.
Rather, as first spotted by Push Square, it's believed that over 2.2 million of those players have experienced the game through Game Pass. An additional 400,000 copies have reportedly been sold on Steam, with PlayStation having a paltry 200,000 copies sold, per Alinea Analytics.
