Nintendo Officially Sues U.S. Government

Nintendo is a notoriously litigious company, and its latest legal target is especially high-profile. This time, Nintendo of America is setting its sights on the U.S. Government, seeking recompense for tariffs that the company has been affected by since 2025.

As reported by Aftermath, Nintendo has filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Government based on President Trump's 2025 imposition of tariffs through executive orders. The suit cites the U.S. Departments of the Treasury, Homeland Security, Customs & Border Protection, Department of Commerce, and a number of individual government figures as defendants. In the complaint, Nintendo cites the collection of "more than 200 billion in tariffs" as a result of "unlawful trade measures."

A variety of individual tariffs imposed on imports from foreign nations through executive orders in 2025 were recently struck down by the Supreme Court, rendering billions collected in tariff revenue unconstitutional. Nintendo's lawsuit acknowledges that the Supreme Court decision "did not address issuing refunds," but requests "the prompt refund, with interest, of any IEEPA duties paid by plaintiff" as a consequence of the decision.
