Battlefield 6 publisher EA has reportedly laid off a number of individuals from Battlefield Studios, which is composed of Criterion, DICE, Ripple Effect, and Motive, today as part of a "realignment." Neither the Battlefield 6 publisher nor any of the affected studios has yet to release an official statement on the matter, but it has been claimed that although a variety of different teams and offices have been impacted by the layoffs, none of the development studios will be shuttered.
These layoffs will come as a massive surprise not only to the developers who have worked on the Battlefield series, but to fans too. Although the franchise has had some rocky releases over the years, namely the disastrous launch of Battlefield 2042 in 2021, which became one of the worst-reviewed games on Steam, last year's Battlefield 6 was the best-selling game of 2025. This was hugely impressive for a number of reasons, but mainly because EA had finally dethroned Activision and outsold Call of Duty, which often tops the sales charts year after year.
