There's no denying that ever since Sony emerged out of the PlayStation 3 era, things have been going very well for the company, with both their hardware releases and first-party games selling exceptionally well when compared to their direct competition.

In one sense, that has been totally fair, with the products on offer of a consistently high quality and delivering on exactly what their considerable fan base has been asking for.

That said, they haven't been immune from the movements of the modern gaming market, and there has been a notable move towards digital sales over all else, as well as proprietary products and software designed to lock players into their ecosystem. Now, those efforts have attracted the attention of consumer advocacy groups, and a class action lawsuit has been filed against the tech giant.

As first reported by the BBC, campaigner Alex Neill has filed a £2bn ($2.7bn) lawsuit against Sony in the UK, with the basis of the complaint resting on the idea that the company has prevented players from buying digital products outside of its own ecosystem.
