Long-Lost Star Wars FPS Surfaces 13 Years After Cancellation

Star Wars: First Assault has not only reappeared online more than a decade after it was canceled, but there's also a playable version of an early build available. The first-person shooter was approaching the end of development when the Star Wars franchise was purchased by Disney, and the game was canceled in 2013 alongside the closure of developer and publisher LucasArts.

Gameplay footage of Star Wars: First Assault has unexpectedly surfaced, streamed by the YouTube channel Unseen Halo - Corbin. The video shows just over an hour of gameplay from First Assault's closed technical test. Map and mode selection are limited because of the build, but the gameplay shows an objective-based mode on a map based on Tatooine. The game seems to have originally been intended to release on the Xbox 360, and this beta build is currently playable on PC via an emulator of the console.

Star Wars: First Assault appears to be something of a Call of Duty clone, which would have made it distinct from the existing Star Wars: Battlefront series, which apes the sandbox gameplay of Battlefield.
