Marathon has firmly established itself as Bungie's sole project now, whether Destiny fans like it or not. However, to make sure it doesn't sink harder than the Titanic, the studio is very clearly attempting to get people in the door to at least give it a try. To do that, it's currently put on a free week that will let players try out the game for a few days before shutting its doors once again.
It's a solid tactic, if a little desperate for a game that launched just a couple of months ago, but it appears to be working. Ever since it went free to play, Marathon has seen a sizable player boost, and if some of those players are interested in what they've played, you could see them going to the PlayStation Store to pick up a copy of the game.
For those that did, they'll have noticed that the game's Deluxe Edition was on sale for just $14. That's a pretty steep price cut, especially considering that Marathon doesn't have a Deluxe Edition upgrade path, so people naturally thought that they were buying the game's Deluxe Edition for a heavily discounted price.
