Valve has quietly changed the wording used to describe the Steam Machine's 4K gaming capabilities, and it may be a bad sign for the device. While Valve's Steam Machine page still indicates that the console is capable of 4K, the circumstances of it reaching 4K are now different.
The Steam Machine has already seen some controversy due to its high price. While fans of Valve and Steam were expecting a higher price after Valve admitted that securing hardware was becoming difficult, having to fork over a $1,049 for the base version of the system likely puts the new console/PC-hybrid out of reach for many who would have otherwise gladly bought it. Even for those who still intend to pick one up, though, this new information may make the Steam Machine less appealing.
