Beyond Blue isn't going to be for everyone. If you're after action and excitement, this isn't going to be for you. It's a slow but rather peaceful experience and I was pretty relaxed while playing though. Imagine Subnautica in creative mode, minus the building elements, and imagine David Attenborough is narrating it. You can add or subtract a few points depending on how interested you are personally in ocean studies.
House Flipper is emblematic of why every game doesn't need to be on Switch. Its nauseating performance, terrible controls, and laggy menus combine to make an overall awful experience. The game itself, while relaxing at times, seems to want to waste your time in any way it possibly can.
Disintegration is a unique game held back by oftentimes irritating and dull game design and a weak campaign. While practically everything about the world and gameplay is unlike anything I've played before, too little of it succeeds in being consistently enjoyable.
3000th Duel is an amazing action-adventure game that pulls out all the stops to give us the experience of nostalgic gameplay with current videogame nuances. With a rich world to explore, visuals and audio hints that make you believe that the world is constantly evolving, and boss battles that shake you to the core, this is a must on the Switch.
Each game could easily go toe to toe with any modern-day juggernaut, but only the BioShocks can be played on the go.
Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition is the best version of Monolithsoft's masterpiece. Its additions serve to streamline the experience and make an already great game that much better. Its expansion Future Connected gives some much needed closure on one of the story's best and most complex characters while spicing up the exploration and combat in a fun, new way. If you're not already a fan, this version might just hook you like it has so many others.
There's a lot to love in this remaster. Eclipsing the 2012's "Ultimate" edition, this version may not contain all of the sequels, but damn if it doesn't make the originals truly fantastic. It might be too much to hope for a complete remaster of all of the sequels, but Command & Conquer Remastered is pure fan service. Welcome back, Commander.
All three of these games are exactly what you'd expect from other versions: the same shootin', lootin', and possibly rootin' and tootin' found on other platforms. However, this style of game is a great fit for a portable console and may be worth double dipping if you've never played the DLC before.
Deliver us the Moon is a fun, tension filled puzzle game with a great story and a few flaws. You can tell the developers did research to make this Moon puzzle as realistic as possible. This game contains little to no violence which makes it a great brain teasing game for mostly everyone. What could improve this game is a better menu system, more camera control, and perhaps more NPC engagement. I give this game an 85 out of 100 for the enthralling puzzles, compelling side stories, and realistic game play.
Tour De France 2020 is a functional game and did manage to engage me on some occasions but I was left wanting for a more fleshed out experience of actually riding in a TDF event and could have really done without so much faffing with multiple team members. If you like the management side, this might be for you, but if you want a more in depth cycling experience… No yellow jersey for this one.
Whether you haven’t played a Naruto game or want to experience the extra Road to Boruto content, Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 Road to Boruto is one of the best anime fighters around. Its huge roster of characters, great recap of the last few anime arcs, and awesome porting job make this one a must have on the Switch.
I was surprised to realize that I'd already played Monster Train for 15 hours before I began to write this review, and I wasn't even halfway finished with unlocking everything. The randomization of the relics, cards, and other elements of the game keep it fresh and fun long after you've beaten the game a few (dozen) times. If you are a fan of card battlers, this is a must have.
Cannibal Cuisine is a great little spin on the cooking genre, and it's a blast with friends. While some UI and balance issues make for rough edges on the fun, the goofy and grisly nature make it a great addition for your cooperative craziness.
XCOM 2 on the Nintendo Switch is the complete package, including all DLC and the War of the Chosen expansion. Tactical gaming on the go will cost you a little graphical fidelity and a few frames, but in the war against the Elders, it's a small price to pay.
Indiecalypse is a look into the struggles of developing indie games, but in gaming form. The gameplay is simple for the most part, but the lack of clear instructions for minigames gets frustrating. The homage to various other games is neat, but that's about it gameplaywise. The art style is great and I'd love to see more games with characters and worlds like this.
Old Gods Rising is an unfortunate mess. While it has a story that immediately hooks the player, a world that's begging to be explored and understood, and boasts fantastic environmental sound design, the current state of the game is unplayable. The numerous bugs and glitches restrict this game from being a great title. Until those bugs are patched out, you're better off spending your money elsewhere.
Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling is the Paper Mario we've been waiting for for over fifteen years. It's aesthetically pleasing to look at, the main characters have an amusing dynamic, and it has a fun turn-based battle system with real time elements and strategy. I urge not only Paper Mario fans to give it the chance it deserves, but anyone that has ever picked up an RPG.
Developer Moonshine Studios has built something fantastic for Stadia's first platform exclusive. Cooperative chaos combined with a delightfully goofy storyline of a salt company gone rogue makes for many laugh out loud moments. While there are some technical hitches to iron out, Get Packed is a must have for anyone on Stadia.
Maneater is a fun aquatic adventure with more to keep players engaged than it initially seems, it kept me hooked throughout and has enough daft character to bait me back in for a future play-through. Beautiful to look at, well-paced but chaotic when it needs to be and I had a whale of a time.
Star Horizon is a port of an on-rails space shooter mobile game that unfortunately misses the mark. The gameplay is simple enough to get into and not too difficult, but it's fairly bland at the same time. It's alright for a few hours of gaming, but at the time of writing, a game-breaking glitch prevents you from progressing past mission seven.
