All in all, Mario Kart 8 gives seasoned players the game that they deserved when its Wii sibling hit the shelves, but also doesn't rely so heavily on past experience, keeping it open for new players. The 50cc class is a nice spot for beginners, and can be used to unlock any of the game's eight Grand Prix Cups for play in the tougher 100 or 150cc classes.
Super TIME Force is exceptional in almost every way; the art is beautiful, the tunes are jammin', the game-play is inventive, and the plot is genuinely funny. My only issue is the level design doesn't match the how truly phenomenal the rest of the game is.
We've had two Sportsfriends sessions at the House of Edwards, and I get texts daily about when we are going to play it again. Each game in the Sporstfriends collection brings something enjoyable to the couch co-op experience. All the games are tight, polished, and aesthetically beautiful, making Sportsfriends the quintessential party game for all PlayStation platform owners.
In Harm's Way ends literally right in the middle of a frantic scene where the characters are surrounded by zombies. Here, you need to choose whether or not to take a particular action, foreshadowed by an earlier character, which has life-or-death ramifications. That in and of itself is nothing new to the series, but the way it is carried out is particularly telling of how Clementine is changing as a character. Without giving it away, I chose to do the action and the expression on her face as the episode closed out both elated and scared me.
Bound by Flame is a generic Western RPG that is steeped in good intentions but plagued by poor execution. It gives the feeling that whatever budget the developer had was spent on the game's abstracts instead of the tangible mechanics that are necessary to make it playable.
The single player portion of the game may feel hollow, but the excellent online integration, Royal Garden courses, and challenges more than make up for the Castle Club's shortcomings. Mario Golf: World Tour is everything I would expect from a Camelot golf game. Like previously mentioned, Camelot just knows how to hone in on what is fun about golf; they extract those pieces, make them approachable, and most importantly, enjoyable.
I'd easily recommend the title to anyone who enjoys classic platforming/action games from days gone by – the positive message and pure fun of it only add on to the value.
It aims to plunge you into a charming and childlike fairytale world where you battle the darkness to save the light. With the subtle and soothing melodies of its outstanding soundtrack and the lovely visuals, I'd say this game has accomplished exactly that. Child of Light is a solid coming-of-age bedtime story for both children and adults alike. It's just simply enchanting, is what it is.
Daylight is a very short game, but, thanks to its randomly generated levels, you'll get more than a few plays out of it. The overall presentation of it is pretty solid, and if it doesn't get you jumping out of your seat on a regular basis, well, you're a braver person than I am.
Dark Souls II is an absolute feast of a game, and it will be a long, long time before I'm sated by it.
I wish there was more detail to that side of it, but games are ultimately about having fun and doing something that presents intriguing obstacles, entertaining play, and worthwhile distractions – and, all things considered, Croixleur Sigma meets those requirements more often than not.
It's a change of pace from many games out there, but such a thing is what makes Escape Goat 2 truly worth it for all the time spent with it.
It's not every day you play a video game that changes how you look at the format itself. Infinite Monkeys, with its never-ending team of sacrificial knights, not only pulls it off but does so with style in Life Goes On.
While Fract OSC is probably squarely in the 'not for everyone' category, those interested in a unique, music-centric experience with a healthy dose of exploration and obscure puzzles should definitely check out what this one has to offer.
All in all, Strike Suit Zero: Director's Cut is an enjoyable game. It adds a fresh new feel to an otherwise old, washed-up genre that can appeal to just about anybody looking for a casual gameplay experience.
All in all, LEGO The Hobbit is a great addition to the LEGO family of games. Besides a few minor frustrations, the game succeeds at its goal of translating the epic adventure of The Hobbit films into a fun, light-hearted experience that's suitable for everyone.
The Wolf Among Us continues to be Telltale's sharpest and most stylish series to date, with quick witted writing and a visual style which still seeks to impress… and does. (Seriously, why aren't MORE high-def games cel shaded? It looks really good!) Add on to that impressive reveals and a mystery that's building up to something bigger, and it's safe to say that at this point, the whole season is definitely going to be worth following through to the end.
With a fully-fledged single player / co-op "story" mode, online play, deathmatch, level editor, and more, there's a ton of content for the cost, and it's all a ton of fun to boot.
If you don't mind taking on a few slower quests with a couple of buddies, then Mercenary Kings can certainly help deliver on a fun time shooting bad guys with friends. If you're more likely to be playing a lone or you seek something with smoother fast paced action gameplay, then you might be best looking elsewhere. Mercenary Kings still provides a solid enough distraction for the former crowd.
It's broken, but it's not a mess for being a title that spits on the face of physics. It's small, but there's a lot to try to do and the Workshop feature will be sure to bring more content by the truckloads. It's stupid, but it's brilli– no, it really is stupid as hell. Still, you can tell a lot of love went into this project. Plus, you can be a goat.
