All in all, It is a very nice experience if you don't mind playing a book, watching a story or reading a game.
So Many Me is adorable. It's clever. And it's punishing. If you are looking for a fun puzzle platformer that's easy on the eyes, I highly recommend So Many Me.
With enough choice to make it feel real and human, the player will find no shortage of dastardly deeds and hilarious moments to make playing through to the end worthwhile.
If you've just gone to see Age of Extinction and really want to play an awesome Transformers game, High Moon's past efforts are all you should even consider going for. Leave this pile of scrap out to rust until someone comes along to polish the franchise up again.
At the end of the day, is Sniper Elite III going to end up on my Top 5 list for the best games of 2014? Not likely. What I will say however is that in spite of its lack of ambition on the narrative side of things, it serves as a pretty meat-and-potatoes action game that does one thing really well…and sometimes that's enough.
With some of the tightest controls and game mechanics I have seen in years, Shovel Knight acquires an excellence that I seldom experience in games nowadays, making this game a class act well worth the $15 price tag whether you get it on Wii U, 3DS, or Steam. With a phenomenal soundtrack to accompany the thoroughly crafted lands and lovely 8-bit visuals, there's a lot to love and help you become enthralled in this retro-style world.
Overall, Divinity Original Sin is a fantastic game. There is variety in weapons and abilities, and choices in the ways you solve your problems. The world is full of life: Every corner of the world has treasure, or curiosities like a bull that can tell your fortune, or even a severed head that still speaks. The combat is fun, with elemental effects turning large battles into sort of a puzzle, with your spells and abilities being just half of the pieces. The story isn't as engaging as say, Baldur's Gate II, but it's still serviceable in support of such fantastic gameplay hooks
With game-changing gameplay, beautiful visuals, and a decent story, Astebreed makes for a great diversion that you'll wish could go on forever.
For a mere $9.99 on Steam, there's little reason (other than holding out for a nigh-inevitable sale price in the future) that I wouldn't recommend it to anyone — and I don't hesitate at all to say this is probably a must-play for those who, like me, love the genre and wish it had more high-quality titles to offset the flood of terrible browser-based entries.
A gothic action RPG jeweled with easter eggs and playful banter, The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing 2 is a gripping experience bursting at the seems with personality.
Squids Odyssey can be all yours for $15 on the Wii U eShop or when it releases on the 3DS eShop on July 3rd..
Not since Duncan Jones' Moon have I been this giddy about a science-fiction story that so expertly plays around with the genre, especially in dealing with artificial intelligence. I am in awe and eagerly anticipating the later episodes with much excitement.
The Last Federation's flavor text and tooltips are very entertaining, and you can tell the writers are very much in love with the world they've created. It's got a lot of heart, and a lot of good ideas, but fails to execute completely on any of them. It's a shame because, in its current state, The Last Federation is not a game I could recommend to anyone.
A Story About My Uncle looks, and plays like a labor of love. The story is intriguing, and the environments are gorgeous. $12.99 may seem a little steep for a game that will last about two hours, but it doesn't feel like a cash-grab. It feels like a smaller studio putting everything they have into a game that is going to be on my list for the best of the year. If you have any affinity for platformers, you need to play A Story About My Uncle.
With the emergence of Transistor and Child of Light from earlier this year, it's getting harder and harder to argue that video games are merely there for entertainment and have no artistic value at all. Transistor strikes a fine balance between being an enjoyable video game and a cyberpunk piece of art.
Watch Dogs may not be the "next-gen" game that many had the expectations for, but it is a fantastic game that is worth experiencing. Hacking is both your weapon and your toy. Enemies will cower at your feet and the city will bend to your will as you walk amongst the low-tech plebs. Unique gameplay and a beautiful living world sets Watch Dogs apart, establishing itself as a great outing and the strong foundation of a new franchise.
Throughout the story B.J. is constantly reminded that he is born to kill Nazis. As long as that too is your mindset going into this game, you'll get everything you want and more out of Wolfenstein: The New Order. Just don't take the alternate history, the characters, the plot, or really anything too seriously. And that's OK because not everything has to be so serious to be fun. Grab hold of your dual-shotguns, blast off to the Nazi lunar base, and just have merry ol' time shooting those damn Nazis. That's an order, soldier!
Overall, Moebius: Empire Rising was a disappointment. A game with an interesting plot and curious puzzles was hampered by boring characters and the nuance of guesswork. Ultimately, Moebius failed to deliver on its numerous potential intricacies. It often appeared as though the developers failed to consider many things from the perspective of the player, making it so that many of the game's features, interesting as they could have been, were left fairly flat and uninteresting. Still, if you can make it through much of the tedious gameplay, players are sure to find some interest in a plot that is arguably pretty interesting.
If you're a fan of exploration, puzzles, or pigs, you probably owe it to yourself to try this one out.
All in all, Mario Kart 8 gives seasoned players the game that they deserved when its Wii sibling hit the shelves, but also doesn't rely so heavily on past experience, keeping it open for new players. The 50cc class is a nice spot for beginners, and can be used to unlock any of the game's eight Grand Prix Cups for play in the tougher 100 or 150cc classes.
