6 / 10.0 - Resident Evil 3
Apr 3, 2020

This is an enjoyable single-player adventure with some impressive set-pieces and beautiful cutscenes. There are even some butt-clenching moments that are genuinely exhilarating, but the overall package is much to meager. If this was a Resident Evil movie, it would easily be the best one.

7 / 10.0 - Bright Memory
Apr 1, 2020

There is a lot to like in Bright Memory, and I can’t help but wonder how fantastic it could be as an eight or ten hour experience with a coherent storyline and some extra polish. Hopefully the next game will deliver a more complete package, whenever that might be.

Lots small details and progress, that build up over time into something greater. If you’re looking for a challenge or an epic quest, you won’t find it here. If you want a way to chill out, and build something you can take pride in (albeit, once), then Tom Nook has the perfect package for you.

If the developers come through with an update that refines the state of this remake, then maybe then the future for Panzer Dragoon is bright. Maybe then, the world will finally get to eventually play Panzer Dragoon Sagas.

6.5 / 10.0 - Conglomerate 451
Mar 28, 2020

As the campaign drags on, the tedium and repetition starts to become increasingly apparent. If you are desperate for a new dungeon crawler, then Conglomerate 451 isn’t exactly a horrible deal.

7 / 10.0 - Alder’s Blood
Mar 27, 2020

This is a substantial package of content that will be challenging to overcome. It won’t surpass similar games of this ilk, but is an interesting experiment in the genre that shows the possibilities of what can be done in turn-based gameplay.

8 / 10.0 - DOOM Eternal
Mar 22, 2020

The annoying self-aware memes can be ignored, and if you don’t care for Doom guy depicted in third person cutscenes, they are easily skipped. Doom Eternal lives up to its name in proving that it is going to be here for a long time.

To those who never played any of the series, this is the perfect time to dive in. If you can forgive needing to turn bosses into doormats, and failing to hire the odd Pokemon, you’ll probably find the greatest challenge the franchise has offered yet.

Even though the DLC doesn’t expand upon the main story of Bloody Chronicles, its worth playing through to hold you over until the next act or canonical side story.

6 / 10.0 - MediEvil
Mar 18, 2020

MediEvil 1998 was not perfect, and so many of its imperfections are still present in the remake. For some people, it is only the graphics that matter. This kind of shallow attempt at remaking a classic makes for an underwhelming experience.

4 / 10.0 - Rack N Ruin
Mar 16, 2020

The kind of challenge where things are so boring but you keep tuning out, defines the Rack N Ruin experience. It is not a buggy or glitchy mess, and most things work as intended. The problem with Rack N Ruin is that it sets such a low bar for itself and whoever picks it up, that it leaves no impression at all.

The heroes in these games are fun to play as because they are powerful, and being powerful is awe-inspiring. It is cathartic to cut robots in half with a laser sword, as chunky pixel art blurts out all over the floor. It is a satisfying challenge that is just not available anywhere else.

Even with its flaws, Bloodroots is worth checking out if you are in the mood for a challenging action game that rewards skillful play, and lots of practice.

The game’s setting, presentation, and themes are also all pretty engaging. It’s just a shame that the poor English translation will often pull you out of the experience.

7.5 / 10.0 - Ultracore

Ultracore is a very solid 2D action game, if a bit unfair at times. Retro game enthusiasts would adore the deftly crafted pixel art ,and classic run and gun gameplay.

While it does lean a bit on the easy side, kids will love this. Kunai could easily be a defacto entry level metroidvania to introduce to children.

This sort of gameplay is much better suited for casual play on a portable gaming device during a long commute, than on a stationary game console.
