I initially mentioned my affinity for games like Ico and Journey earlier in order to quickly paint a picture in the reader's mind of what kind of game Rime is. Using comparisons is a simple, if somewhat lazy, way to easily convey a genre or narrative direction of a game, and, much like those games are their own entities, Rime shares as much in common with those titles as it does its own thing.
I appreciate just how much effort has been put into this collection, and note that it appears that the zombies are not not just lumbering monsters as they were in the past, but move with improved AI that increases their ferocity and cunning. All up this revamp is a stunning success, and for newcomers and seasoned veterans alike, I would strongly suggest you add this pack to your arsenal of fun.
The Surge is a whirlwind of action-RPG fun with a fast and frantic melee-focused combat system, addictive loot systems and an immersive sci-fi horror atmosphere.
Goofy physics-based indie fun in a bite-sized package, that's way more fun with couch co-op and catapults.
Looking and feeling like a game from a number of years ago, the Youkols may not be the only thing best left to history here.
The Hunter Call of the Wild Simulates hunting down animals, maybe a little to well. If You know what hunting is all about you know what to expect. Long minutes or more stalking before you get a shot.
In the end, Farpoint is an engaging game that although doesn't push the boundaries of what VR is capable of, it still delivers a fun yet ultimately short VR experience on the PlayStation 4. Overall, it's a fun premise with some really intense battles as you use the Aim Controller to take on an almost never ending hoard of aliens with an interesting yet cliched story as its backdrop.
Unmistakable influences lead to a game with a lot of heart but lacking polish.
I really, really enjoyed Prey. A pitch perfect marriage of Science-Fiction and Horror, Prey is close to what I imagine a modern, FPS Dead Space would be like, with a liberal helping of System Shock sauce sprinkled on top.
Blue Rider is fun, flashy but also flawed. It's nice to see a legitimate shoot-em-up on the PS4, one made by people who appreciate the genre. The graphical palette is beautiful, and rarely this nice for this genre. Audio is a throwback, and in the best of ways. Too few levels and no true continues make Blue Rider a likely tough sell except for score chasers.
The Sexy Brutale is a stellar mind bender, one of the best mystery themed, puzzle titles in years.
Dungeon Chess is a solid and affordable chess experience, one nicely paired with the Dungeons and Dragons brand. Still, graphic jitters and missing options make it a wait-and-see title, at present.
Butcher never demanded too much of me, which is something I can't say about many games these days as responsibilities pile up alongside the years. Perfect for quick bursts of gaming, Butcher worked best for me as a palate cleanser between other games.
Possibly not for the purists but a bit of fun.
Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 is one of those titles that will absolutely appeal to those who love their sniper games. Attention to detail in that regard is on point and a pleasure to play. For those who want to get out and around the actual world, you might find that it gets a bit dull after time.
What makes David Attenborough's First Life VR so interesting is the content behind the visuals which is like a virtual reality edutainment experience and even though it's only 15-mintues long, it's definitely a title that can be revisited time and time again.
This edutainment experience goes for a whopping 18-minutes and gives the viewer just enough information to keep you entertained as you explore these underwater wrecks. It's really quite fascinating that is made even more enjoyable thanks to the VR experience.
Little Nightmares is an effective little thriller that provides a breezy four or so hours of gameplay and some of the most intense scares of the year, high praise in a year where Resident Evil VII and Outlast II have also released. This short length might be a bone of contention for some but it ensures that the game is succinct and free from filler and doesn't run the risk of wearing out its welcome.
Probably my favourite PS VR Experience so far because it's almost like swimming with the sharks and all the other sea life in this area. Seeing the sharks swim by and with the headset, it really gives the illusion that you are underwater and it feels like you could almost reach out and touch the sharks.
What can I say? I really LOVED Puyo Puyo Tetris and given the limited amount of titles on the Nintendo Switch, especially for multiplayer chaos, this game delivers that fun title that can be played in short or long bursts. It's also a title where you can return many times and long after the blockbuster titles like Zelda Breath of the Wind or Splatoon 2 are forgotten, you'll definitely be coming back to this game as each time you play is different but where it works is with other people!
